Presentation transcript:

Ergonomics By Lacee Galuppo and Valerie Rohn

What is Ergonomics ?  Ergonomics is the study of human capabilities in relations to posture and movement. ?

Posture…  Minimizes unnecessary static work  Reduces the forces acting on the body

Not only posture…  Ergonomics includes other components such as:  Equipment  Furniture  Tools  Tasks  Physical environment  Organization of how we work

Physical Health  Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)  Extended keyboard work  Carpal tunnel syndrome  Eyestrain and Headache  Long durations on the computer without a break  Back and neckpain  Sitting long periods of time in unproper positions

Precautions  Step away for a break every hour for about 10 minutes  Use proper seating, monitors, mouse and keyboards

Environmental Safety  5% of electricity is used by computer in work place  Look for products with Energy Star which help protect environment
