Marcus Licinius Crassus: The Richest Man in Rome Presented By: Leo Holtz

Birth Born in 115 B.C. Born a Roman citizen

Sulla’s Civil War Having to escape out of Rome when opposing militants posed a threat to the Republic. Sulla must regroup out of Italy. Crassus is given command of part of the right wing invading Rome

Sulla’s Civil War Cont.

Rise to Wealth and Power After Sulla’s conquest and capture of Rome, Crassus is given several opportunities to make a fortune. Selling stolen properties and renovating them created Crassus’s immense fortune. Stolen slaves were to be sold at a high price, allowing a constant flow of profit.

Political Rise Elected to council with his rival Pompy. Elected for a single year, only allowed to return to political power after ten years.

Spartacus vs. Crassus Slave rebellion started by Spartacus from 73 B.C. – 71 B.C. Several failed attempts at silencing the revolts by other famous generals. Crassus offers to train and assemble his own army, using his own funds. Crassus proved to be harsh, but affective.
