How does high school differ from middle school? Non-attendance impacts grades significantly Treated as a young adult responsible for actions and decisions The teacher/student relationship is a partnership. Need to talk to your teachers Less drama and fewer rumors. Fighting and “drama” are considered immature TRANSITION: FREEDOM, OPPORTUNITY, SELF-RESPECT

Freedom  More independence  Choosing classes  Choosing career path  Personal choices – peers, work habits, activities  Special events, Dances

Opportunity  Clubs  Sports  Activities  Honors & AP classes  Tech Prep classes  Running Start  Jobs

Self-Respect  Good choices can lead to respect... of peers of peers of family of family of community of community...diploma/graduation, honors, awards, work, monetary rewards, feeling of accomplishment, self- confidence, resilience...diploma/graduation, honors, awards, work, monetary rewards, feeling of accomplishment, self- confidence, resilience
