The space behind the window sill has to be filled up with concrete and the cavity walls have to be filled up with insulation. One way is to pump the insulation.

Cavity Brickwork Entry doors in narrow areas will simply have small nibs on either side. Where in front or side wall positions, consideration should be given to brick bond. While still maintaining as close as possible to desired position on plan. Once position is determined, door jamb is temporarily braced.

Bonding Frames into Cavity Brickwork Where frame is in same plane as brick skin: Min. 4 gal steel straps or frame ties,to back of jamb – max.600mm apart Straps or ties being not less than 200 x 25 x 1.5mm thick, with corrugated or deformed end to key into brickwork Where the door frame closes the cavity between skins. Built in as above with – Continuous batten at least 42 x 35 and The batten should fit tight between the skins, min durability class 2 timber See pictures on next slide (ref P12 text)

Brick Veneer Same bond requirements as for cavity brickwork. Some pre-fabricated frames allow for floating secondary jamb studs for this purpose. The following must be complied with – Door jamb stile must be fixed with gal nails screws or bolts. Max. vertical spacing of 600mm Adequate waterproofing to the stiles must be provided. Either by vertical flashing or recessing jamb behind brick reveals a min. of 5mm See next slide (ref P13 text)

Door frames for single brick walls Set out for bond as for others. Frames are either Timber or steel. Temporary spreaders should be placed at bottom of frame. Steel frames usually have metal angle for this. Tempoary timber braces are placed at the head of the jamb. Then either weighted down or fastened into position on the floor. Avoid nailing blocks to finished slabs as removal may damage slab surface. See picture next slide (ref P15 text)

Steel frame ties Metal frames are often used for security. Gal door frame ties are used to bond them into brickwork. The back of the jamb is filled with mortar progressively.
