3. Preparing New Door Unit
Remove shipping carton. Inspect unit for damage. Door has casing attached to one side of unit and is packed with pre-mitered casing for other side of door.

4. Checking the Jamb for Plumb
                         
Set door unit into framed opening. Check it for plumb with a carpenter's level.

Installing Shims
                         
To plumb door unit, insert wood shims between door jamb and frame on hinged side of door. Tap shims with hammer until level shows jamb is plumb.

Nailing Jamb
                  
Gaps between jamb and framing at hinge and lock locations should be filled with shim material. Nail jamb to frame with 6d finish nails driven through shims.

Trimming Shims
                        
Cut off shims with handsaw. Hold saw vertically to avoid damaging the door jamb or wall.

8. Completing Nailing Process
                        
Nail pre-mitered trim to jambs, using 4d finish nails driven at 16-inch intervals. Recess nail heads with nail set.

9. Installing Door Casing
                         
Install casing on the door jamb. Cut miters and trim as necessary.
