WHAT COUNSELOR’S CAN DO FOR SENIORS: Make sure seniors have met graduation requirements; however doing the work is all on you. Help seniors finalize post-secondary planning. Write letters of recommendation IF NEEDED, not all need these. Talk to students when they are confused about what to do.

WHAT WILL YOU DO AFTER HIGH SCHOOL? Going to straight to WORK? Military - Sign up to see recruiters. There is information in the Counseling Center Apprenticeship & Trade Schools- Electricians, Masons, Plumbing, HVAC, Dental Hygienist, Vet Technician, etc Come visit with Metro Trades on September 9 th Explore other community colleges such as IWCC or Milford 2-year college: Associate Degrees or Transfer Credits 4-year college: Undergraduate Degrees & Graduate Work

ALL STUDENTS SHOULD GET SOME TYPE OF EDUCATION AFTER HIGH SCHOOL! Why? There is a program out there for everyone! Additional training will lead to higher job satisfaction and higher income. You never know what your future holds. Better To Be Prepared!

COLLEGE VOCAB: CREDIT HOUR: A college class is usually 3 credit hours. ASSOCIATE DEGREE - About 66 credit hours Known as a 2-yr degree, though some take more time or less time Trades schools are Associate Degree programs Many students transfer to Undergraduate college next UNDERGRADUATE OR BACHELORS DEGREE - About 128 credit hours Known as a 4-yr degree, though 5 year plans are common MASTERS DEGREE – Bachelors degree graduate hours PhD DEGREE – Masters + Doctoral hours hours Earn title of Doctor (not just medical)

VISIT WITH COLLEGES & MILITARY REPRESENTATIVES AT EHS BY Going on your NAVIANCE account and sign up 2 days in advance No exceptions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All seniors get 2 days to visit college campuses BUT FIRST Students must stop in counseling center to pick up form for parents to sign and return before the day of the visit. Form Mrs. Frevert will get it for you.

APPLICATION TIPS Use your legal name and write down all usernames & passwords when creating application accounts—it is okay to use the same one for all colleges. Use a valid that you will check often—colleges want to you not your parents. Try to have a professional sounding . Proofread and read directions CLOSELY! Once you apply….one very important thing………….READ ON…………………

Once you apply, come to the counseling center And complete a TRANSCRIPT REQUEST FORM.

Once the application is sent, then what? SENIORS SHOULD… Work hard and continue to develop skills; don’t let academics fall off. Colleges do look at senior classes and grades for admission decisions. Continue to gather information and talk to others about options…especially talk to parents. Think about what you want to study in college, lots of resources at college website and online. Discuss money and its impact on options. See you counselor with any questions. Don’t wait until the last minute.

This is in ADDITION to sending to the college or university Fill out a “transcript request form” in the counseling center after registering.
