YOU NEED 28 CREDITS TO GRADUATE!! 8 classes a year x 4 years = 32 courses possible in a regular 4-year schedule

FUTURE READY CORE ■ 4 MATH ■ 4 ENGLISH ■ 4 SOCIAL STUDIES –(WORLD, CIVICS, AMERICAN HISTORY 1 and 2) ■ 3 SCIENCE COURSES –(EARTH/ENVIRONMENTAL, BIOLOGY, PHYSICAL) ■ 1 HEALTHFUL LIVING ■ CAREER MANAGEMENT ■ 6 ELECTIVES –2 SEQUENTIAL PLUS –4 CONCENTRATED

MIDDLE SCHOOL COURSES FOR HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT* ■ The high school mathematics, science and second language courses taken in middle school will help fulfill high school graduation requirements. ■ These courses will NOT count in the students’ GPA’s once they reach high school but WILL count towards the 28 credits needed for graduation. They WILL also serve as the requirements and prerequisites needed.

Registration Process and Materials

STUDENTS WILL REGISTER FOR A TOTAL OF 8 COURSES: 6 courses are required English I (Honors or Academic) Math (Either Honors/Regular Common Core Math I, II, or III, or Math Lab) Earth & Environmental Science (Honors/Regular a small percentage may select Honors/Regular Biology) World History (Honors or Regular) Healthful Living Career Management 2 courses are electives Base them upon your chosen concentrated electives and Career Interest Inventory

“WHAT WILL MY SCHEDULE LOOK LIKE NEXT YEAR?”

REQUIRED TESTING/PROJECTS. PSAT – Given in the 10th – 11th grades through selective classes. PLAN – To prepare for the ACT. All 10 th graders will take. GRADUATION PROJECT – Not required as of 2012 graduating class. NC FINAL EXAMS – Given as an evaluation at the end of most core classes END OF COURSE TESTS (worth 20% of grade-no exemptions) ▪Biology ▪English II ▪Common Core I SAT ’ s During/After Common Core III ACT ’ S All 11 th graders will take. VOCATs (worth 20% of grade-no exemptions) ▪All Career & Technical Education classes

ATTENDANCE POLICY ▪MAJOR CHANGE FROM MIDDLE SCHOOL = YOU WILL “FF” DUE TO ABSENCES, EVEN IF YOU PASS THE CLASS!!!! ▪Students must bring a note to keep on record ▪Students must be present for at least ½ of a class period to be counted present for the 90 minute period. ▪Any student missing more than 7 days per semester has exceeded the attendance requirements and must complete a waiver request to have course credit reinstated.

ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY Based on NC High School Athletic Association policy, an athlete must : be in attendance at least 85% of the previous semester have passed 70% credits courses that semester in order to be eligible for sports. (3 out of 4) 8 th grade courses do not count towards this…all students are eligible 1 st semester of their 9 th grade year---FRESH START!

DRIVING ELIGIBILITY ■ North Carolina state law requires a student to be passing 3 of 4 of courses attempted in order to receive a driving eligibility certificate or keep their driving permit or license.
