3 Future-Ready Core (Course of Study) Graduation Requirements

4 Future Ready Core: Course of Study (2009-10) The Core (21 units) 4 credits of English 4 credits of Mathematics 3 credits of Social Studies 3 credits of Science 1 credit of Health/Physical Education 6 Elective Credits (required) 2 credits from CTE, Arts, or Second Language 4 credit Concentration (recommended)

11 4 Concentration Electives under the 6 Elective Requirement: (RECOMMENDS AT LEAST FOUR CREDITS IN ONE AREA) Career and Technical Education (CTE) Arts/Music Education Advanced Placement (AP) Second Language Community College Courses Turn to page 73 in your Course Catalog. This tailors their course concentrations to fit their interests & goals while building a strong academic foundation.

12 So far, this gives you a total of 21 credits you must earn. However, Chatham County Requires an Additional 7 Electives For A Diploma. This Totals 28 credits you must receive in order to get a high school diploma. Students have the opportunity earn 32 credits in high school.

14 Testing & Graduation Project Pass the following EOC exams w/ a level 3 or higher: Algebra 1, Biology, Civics & Economics, English I, & US History. NC Graduation Project: Research Paper, Product, Portfolio, Oral Presentation. The student picks the topic. (Ex. Current interest, career option, environmental issues, world events, trends, or community needs.)

17 More information about required courses: Students should get input from their teachers & parents on what courses to take. There are standard and honors level courses. (The honors level course is taught at a faster pace, test strategies are different, extra projects are required, more in-depth class discussions, and summer reading packets are required for English courses.) We encourage students to try at least one honors course. Pick the honors level in the subject area you are the strongest in or like the most. 20 Concept Classes For students who are weak readers and do poorly on the Reading EOG exam in May. You will take this course in the fall & then English I in the spring to work on your reading comprehension skills. Reading comprehension is the core of all high school academic subjects. This will not be a class you will register for yourself. It will count as an elective course & not an English course.
