Winding Waters K8 Parent information on Bullying 2018-2019 School year

Our Goal To ensure that schools sustain healthy, positive and safe learning environments for all students and school staff.

Training Awareness Mrs. Giaccone, Guidance Counselor, PK-5, Mrs. Cooper, Guidance Counselor, 6-8, and Deputy Smith have taught all students the definition of bullying and what they should do if they feel they are being bullied. Students will be able to identify bullying behaviors and the actions they need to take to prevent bullying. Students will learn to be “UPSTANDERS” (stand up for others) instead of bystanders.

What is Bullying? Verbal Bullying = name calling, teasing or taunting Physical Bullying = punching, hitting, kicking, tripping Spreading Rumors Ignoring or Excluding on purpose Taking things from someone (ex. money, lunch, snacks) Cyberbullying – Emails or Social Media or Texting

Bullying Criteria For an incident(s) to be considered bullying, certain criteria have to be met: 1.) The bullying behaviors have to be repeated! 2.) There has to be an imbalance of power and the victim feels fearful 3.) The student’s learning environment has to be negatively impacted.

What SHOULD I DO IF I AM BULLIED What SHOULD I DO IF I AM BULLIED? ***This is what we teach the students to do if they seriously feel they are being bullied. Try not to show you are upset or afraid. Calmly tell the student to STOP. Stand up for yourself and others. Walk away. Tell your teacher, counselor, or other trusted adult. Tell your parents. Telling is not tattling. If you are in danger, immediately tell an adult.

Thank you for helping keep our school safe and Bully Free!
