3 The Golden Rule “ Treat others the way you want to be treated.”

4 Bullying Definition Unwanted, aggressive repeated behavior among school aged children that involves a real power imbalance.

5 Two Types of Bullying Indirect Direct

6 Physical Hitting, kicking, pushing, stealing, etc. Verbal Name calling, teasing, threats, and insults.

7 Indirect Relationship Bullying Gossiping, spreading rumors and lies about someone. Making someone feel left out or rejected.

8 How does it make you feel?

9 Characteristics of a Bully May witness physical and verbal aggression at home. Has trouble following rules. Shows little concern for other’s feelings. Children act aggressively toward other students and adults.

10 Report, Report, Report! Report bullying to a trusted adult immediately! Be the HERO!

11 Report vs. Tattling Tattling- trying to get someone else in trouble. Reporting- when you report bullying you are helping someone else.

12 How to React to Bullying Students 1. Be polite instead of acting out in anger 2. Tell adults when bullying happens 3. Be more than a bystander Offer your help 4. Have confidence Act brave, walk away, and ignore the bully 5. Use the buddy system Parents 1. Report known incidents. 2. Be a good listener Encourage children to talk 3. Avoid encouraging retaliation Remain positive 4. Be a good role model Talk about the Golden rule Offer praise often
