Presentation transcript:

Welcome to Grade 7 History! Course overview, expectations etc. By Mr M. Kirby International School of Béarn

Your stationary 1 A4 notebook for History and one for Geography All the usual pens, pencils, rulers etc.

Topics This year we will examine the following topics: What is History? The Romans Islam and The Crusades Medieval Realms

Presentation of work! Content is very important, but so is presentation. Make sure you set out your work well Neat; clear handwriting Illustrate work where appropriate First impressions count!

Text books I hope that you will be able to take a copy of the history textbook home and keep it there. We will also have a copy here in school for you to use This year we will be using the following textbook: Living Through History Book 1 – Roman Empire and Medieval Times Think History – Medieval Times

Homework! Will NOT necessarily be every week, but will be set regularly. Is expected to be handed in every time. Technical difficulties will not be accepted as an excuse; if your computer lets you down then it is time for old fashioned pen and paper!

The Blog! – under construction www.isbearngrade7.blogspot.com Once the Blog is set up: Homework's will be put on the blog to view, so if you lose your diary, forget to write it down etc you can check there. There are also some links on the blog to guide you to websites that are especially useful for research. Try to check it regularly; bookmark it at home!

Rules! We have some simple rules which will enable every student to do their best and be happy in class.

Respect We will take care of our own, other peoples, and the schools property. We will not chew gum. We will not tease or make fun of other people. We will show respect to all members of the class. We will respect other people’s views. We will show respect to our teacher.

Communication We will put up our hand when we want to speak. We will not call out. We will listen to other people. When we work in pairs or groups we will use partner voices.

Learning We will try our best in class. We will ask the teacher if we need help with our work. We will hand in homework on time

Assessment sanctions Homeworks and assessments are a crucial part of your learning. For me to mark them quickly and fairly they MUST be completed on time. I will always give you a clear date when it is due in. If you hand in an Assessment late you will lose 1 mark for every day it is late. This is fair because you have basically had extra time! All the usual sanctions will be imposed AS WELL as this special rule.

The Glossary Throughout the year for each topic we will be building up a glossary of keywords. This glossary should be to the back of your book. Every time you encounter a new word that is relevant to the topic you should add it here, with a definition. Lets prepare the first one now…

Homework Due: Next Lesson Task: Ensure that you are fully equipped. Make sure that title + glossary page are prepared Make a list of 10 historical events
