2. So what am I going to learn in 6 th grade Science? physical science 6 th grade science is all physical science Topics we will be covering include: lab equipment and safety, metric measurements, matter, energy, heat transfer, waves, light and chemical interactions

3. So what do I need for science class? Composition notebook- NOT Spiral (4- 1 per card marking) Planner- provided by the school (bathroom passes) Pencils Several large/jumbo glue sticks Scissors Checking pen- other than blue or black Make sure you come to class everyday with your necessary supplies!!!

Interactive Science Notebooks… In science you will keep almost all of your work in a composition notebook It is important to have this every day You will spend a lot of time cutting and pasting handouts and foldables into your notebook You will have open notebook quizzes so it is important to keep your notebook organized and complete!

5. Science Supply Bins… At your table you will find a supply bin with various school supplies Your group members are responsible for maintaining your bin and making sure all supplies are put back correctly, are accounted for, and aren’t damaged. When supplies like markers and glue sticks run out you must replace them Failure to put back supplies correctly/missing/damaged supplies will result in detention

6. What do I do if I forgot my supplies? If you forget any of your materials for science class in your locker, simply fill out a pass in your planner and have it signed by the teacher. If you can’t find a pencil ask a neighbor to borrow one. I do not loan any out. Any pencils I have collected throughout the day would be on the side counter you are welcome to use. If you come unprepared frequently to class it will result in parent contact and detention

7. What do I do if I am absent? If you are absent check the calendar on the side cabinet to find out the assignment you missed. Then, go to the bin to find that assignment If you don’t see it in the bin it will be on the back table under the sign “were you absent yesterday?” It is your responsibility to complete the work you missed! You are responsible for the starters as well. Check with your table partner to update you on what you missed.

8. How will I be graded? All grades will come from assessments That includes tests, quizzes, projects and skills assessments Homework is meant for practice and will be Zapped if not completed

9. Skills Assessments Don’t forget- summer skills assessment packets are due this Friday September 11 th ! You will get 2 skills assessments a week: Social Studies and Math, then Science and ELA. You will have one week to complete them. They are due the next Friday upon entering the classroom (except for holidays,etc.) No late skills assessments will be accepted, but will be Zapped!

12. Classroom Rules… Come prepared to class everyday with your necessary supplies for science class Coming to class unprepared repeatedly will result in consequences and your grade will suffer!

14. Classroom Rules… Be polite towards your peers, teachers, and all JMS staff members. Kindness goes a long way!

19. STARR Bucks!!! If you exhibit STARR student behaviors inside the classroom or in the building a staff member may award you a STARR buck. Keep these in a safe place as you can use them towards raffles and reward days Can you think of a specific example of how you might earn a STARR buck???
