1 Welcome to Science!!! Things to know!

2 So…Science starts on the last day of orientation.
I assume you know how to… See what work you need to do Check announcements or calendar Complete a lesson Complete a discussion Make sure you respond to the post and 2 students. Complete teacher graded assignment Turn it into the dropbox Remember hold the ctrl button and click on the link if you have problems. Complete a computer scored assignment Check your grades In the gradebook Check for 0 m’s (missing assignments)

3 Stay after class if you do not know how to do any of these things.

5 ClassConnects What do we do during ClassConnects? We cover
Labs- attend class to get points on labs Alternatively you can listen to the recording and send me a series of secret words to get points. Discussions Must be present to get points for these. Tests Attend or watch recording for the reviews. Lessons Big idea lessons to help you understand the unit.

6 Labs!!! I try to do as many labs with you as possible!
This semester, I hope to make lab recordings or we will complete virtual labs.

7 Test Reviews Each are worth 5 points extra credit.
Submit finished ones to me by kmail. Are to be completed by you. You may use them on the test!

11 Extra Credit/Redemption Opportunities
Do quiz corrections. You may earn up to full credit for quiz corrections done BEFORE the Unit test and half-points on quiz corrections after the due-date of the unit test. Once a unit locks, no more quiz corrections will be accepted. Do the Science Skill Tests each month. I will kmail the link to each test as well as make an announcement for it on the homepage. These are each worth 5 points extra credit.

3. Do the Test Reviews. Each test review is worth up to 5 points extra credit. Send the finished ones to by kmail BEFORE you take your test! 4. Extra Credit Movie. Each semester, I will post one extra credit movie. This is worth up to 10 points extra credit.

5. Come to class connects! Each class connect you attend is worth 2 extra credit points! I will give out a secret word during the class connect and you just kmail it to me! These do not apply to reviews as you are already earning 5 points for doing those. 6. Study Island Questions! If you complete all your Study Island lessons, you earn 10 extra credit points in ALL your courses!

14 How to do well on Tests. Do the Reviews!
Do all the assignments in the unit before taking the test! Do all quiz corrections before taking the test! If there are any practice problems, do these before taking the test (Chemistry)!

15 Once in the course, how do you check what assignments are due?

Scroll down to the appropriate date. Look at the assignments to complete that week. Pay close attention to the “Graded Activities Due This Day” row. Remember 0m’s will be entered the day after the assignment is due.

20 Click on Unit Resources to check out materials, keyword, review and reference, and advance preparation.

21 Read the content and select the next arrow to progress through the lesson.

22 You can click on “Lesson Resources” for guides to help you with the lesson. NOTE: Student Guides are not graded. They are just to help you if needed.

24 When you have finished a lesson, you will land on a page reminding you to mark the lesson complete.
Check the assignments you have completed, then click “Back”.

25 When you get to a quiz, simply say “Begin Quiz”

34 Completing Teacher Scored Assignments
These are REQUIRED, YOU CANNOT PASS THE CLASS WITHOUT DOING THESE!

35 At the end of the lesson, if there is a teacher graded assignment, you will see a “Graded Assignment”. Click on it. You will get a pop up window asking you to open the document. Click “OK”. Then complete the assignment. Sometimes you may need to hold the ctrl button while you click this link.

36 Select which assignment you want to submit.
Click on the Dropbox Submit Assignment: Click on submit assignment, which will take you to another screen. Inbox: Look at assignments returned to you from your teacher. Outbox: Look at assignments you sent to your teacher. Select which assignment you want to submit. Click Add/Remove to add items from your computer

37 You’re Done! Click browse to add files from your computer
Look for the appropriate file in your computer, then click “Open” Once you have selected the file, select attach file or save and attach another file depending on what you want to do. After the file attaches, select, “Submit Assignment” You’re Done!

42 Responding to a Discussion Prompt and to Fellow Students!

43 Don’t forget! Most teachers require you to respond to the discussion and at least 2-3 students. Make sure you turn in the assignment on time. Many teachers do not accept late discussions.
