Welcome to Ms. Kemp’s Class

Supplies black pen with you every day!! Please have your binder and a blue or black pen with you every day!! Please use college ruled paper for all assignments. Please keep all of your papers in your binder Bonus opportunities are only good for the first week!!

Classroom Expectations Please follow all school rules! There will be NO chewing gum in class! There will be NO drinks in class! Cell phones will be placed in the front of class every day. They may be picked up once class is dismissed. All backpacks and purses will be put in the front of the class– Please have your materials out and ready before the tardy bell rings. When the bell rings- you are expected to be in your seat and started on your warm-up _ NOT talking or scrambling in a backpack!!

You will not be allowed to go to your lockers You will not be allowed to go to the bathroom– you have five minutes between classes—that should be plenty of time Please be respectful of things that do not belong to you Please do not go behind my desk or take anything off of my desk at any time!! If you have a question, please raise your hand.

Grading System Daily grades are 20% of your grade Quiz grades are 25% of your grade Test grades are 55% and will include exams, writing assignments, research papers, projects, oral presentations, notebooks, vocabulary tests

Warm Ups You are expected to complete a warm-up every day. The warm ups will be checked at unannounced times for a daily grade, OR they may appear on a notebook test. It is your responsibility to make up warm ups on days that you are absent

Vocabulary You will receive vocabulary every Monday Vocabulary is due every Wednesday Vocabulary tests are every Friday Unfortunately, I cannot always control the schedule, so there will be times when the days are changed.

Homework You will have homework often!!! When you are asked to read, most of the time, you will have a quiz to test you on what you read If assignments are not turned in at the beginning of class, they are considered late, and will not be accepted!! Please write your agenda every day!

Binder You will periodically be given binder checks. You will not always know when I am giving you one, but they will count as a test grade. It is your responsibility to write the agenda every day, and the warm up every day. You should also keep up with all material given to you and put it in the appropriate section of your notebook

Make-up Work ALL MAKE-UP WORK IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!!!! You will receive one day for each day your are absent to make up your work You may not use class time for make-up work! If you know in advance that you will be absent—it is YOUR responsibility to get your work before you leave If you are absent for a long term assignment due date, it is your responsibility to turn assignments in on their due date!

LATE WORK I DO NOT TAKE LATE WORK!!!! If it is turned in at the end of class- it is late!!

Put Your Name on Your Papers! If your name is not on your paper—your hard work will go in the trash. Please be sure to follow the proper headings: In the upper right hand corner Student name English I Period Date

Write Legibly! If I can’t read it, I can’t grade it!!!

Always write using complete sentences or your answer(s) will be counted wrong!!!!

Follow all Directions!!!!! If you do not follow the directions on an assignment, you may miss points. It is your responsibility to ask when you don’t understand. Do not wait until the last minute to begin your work—THAT way—you have plenty of time to come in to ask questions!!! All assignments should be completed using complete sentences!! ALWAYS!!!

Extra Credit As a general rule I do NOT give extra credit.

Tutorial Times Before School: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (Friday, I have duty) Activity Periods – every day After School—By appointment only-
