Snowy Owls’ Appearance Snowy owls have feathers on their legs, feet, body, and head. All snowy owls are white, but males traditionally have more white. Snowy owls have strong wings to help them soar over the tundra.

Continuing on with Appearance Snowy owls have yellow eyes to help them spot for prey in the tundra. They have sharp claws to help them catch prey. Most females and young snowy owls have more dark spots than males.

Snowy Owls Homes Snowy owls nest in the Arctic tundra north most stretches of Alaska, Northern Canada, and Eurasia. Snowy owls live in the tundra. The tundra is a cold place with little or no trees. In the tundra most of the ground stays frozen most of the year.

Snowy Owls Predators during nesting season Through nesting season snowy owls have a lot of predators. Those predators are, Arctic foxes, corvids, swift-flying jaegers; as well as dogs, gray wolves, and avian predators.

Snowy Owl sizes and weight A snowy owl is 20-28 inches long with a 49-59 inch wingspan. They can weigh up to 3.5 to 6.6 pounds. Snowy owls can live up to 10 years in the wild.

Snowy Owl Behavior Females stay with their young every day. Snowy owls perch on rocks to rest after endless hours of hunting. Snowy owls are one of the few owls who hunt during the day,

Where Snowy Owls nest and what they eat Snowy owls nest in shallow holes in the ground. Snowy owls catch birds, fish, and other small animals to feed to their young. They eat hares, muskrats, marmots, squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, prairie dogs and moles.
