1. nuance: a subtle difference in or shade of meaning, expression, or sound 

2. critical incident: something that happens that changes the course or outcome of a story or poem.

3. tone: accent or inflection expressive of a mood or emotion

4. allusion A passing reference to or indirect mention of a place, event, literary work, myth, or work of art

6. evidence Facts, statistics or researched information that can prove that something is true

7. first-person point-of-view A character in the story that is telling the story

8. protagonist The leading or main (positive)character or one of the major characters in a drama, movie, novel, or other fictional text

9. static character A character who remains the same or that changes very little from the beginning of a story to the end

10. irony A difference between what is said and what is meant or between what is expected to happen and what actually occurs

11. ellipsis The omission from speech or writing of a word or words that are able to be understood from contextual clues; a series of three dots indicating such an omission …

12. figurative language words, and groups of words, that exaggerate or alter the usual meanings words

13. sensory language Words and phrases that help readers see, hear, taste, feel, or smell what the author is describing.

14. situational irony When what is expected to happen is the opposite of or different from what actually occurs
