Stress and anger Stress is the body's reaction to a change that requires a physical, mental or emotional adjustment or response. Stress can come from any situation or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry, nervous, or anxious. Write down 4 examples of things that can make a person feel stress

Own reflection Think about a time that was stressful to you. Describe how it affected your body. Were you focusing on your strengths or weaknesses Does the way you think help or hurt you Are you being too hard on yourself

Stress and anger cont Anger is an emotion, a feeling of great annoyance or antagonism, a strong feeling of displeasure or hostility. Recall a time in your life when you have been angry. What made you angry? How did you react? c) How long were you angry for? d) Were you able to overcome the feeling of anger and how? e) Suggest a range of strategies people can use to deal with their anger

Research Activity Use the web to answer the following questions: Identify 3 emotional consequences of stress Identify 3 physical consequences of stress List 5 things you could do to manage stress.

Managing Emotions Anger is a normal emotion and part of managing it is being able to express it appropriately. If you hold back your feelings ( bottle them up), they can emerge later in different forms eg depression, anxiety. Being able to express your needs in a way that in respectful to yourself and others is important in maintaining healthy relationships. The 4 step approach to being assertive can help

The 4 step approach to being assertive 1 - say how you feel: use ‘I’ messages 2 – describe the behaviour bothering you 3 – explain how the situation affects you 4 – Identify what you would like to see happen instead Role play with a partner Pretend something is bothering you and use the above 4 steps in your scenario to come to a resolution
