Harassment Definition: 7/29/2014 Harassment Definition: Harassment includes any conduct (verbal, written, graphic, digital, or physical) relating to another student’s race, national origin, religion, color, disability, or gender that is sufficiently severe, pervasive, or persistent. Bullying can be harassment if it is directed at a person because of their actual or perceived membership in a protected class.

7/29/2014 It is imperative students realize that bullying is not to be tolerated and they should not put up with it if it is happening to them or others. 1. Discuss how everyone has the right to feel safe and does not deserve to be bullied. 2. What should you do if you are bullied? (Brainstorm suggestions.) What might happen if you don’t do something about it? (Discuss with students that people who are bullying keep doing so until they are stopped. The first three picture show things students can do to try to stop being bullied. These things could be tried before getting help if the bullying is not too severe. Each is an example of assertive behavior, yet calm and rational. Discuss with the students. In picture 4, the student is asking an adult for help. Talk about the people they know who they could ask for help.
