GCSE Art and Design (Fine Art) Externally Set Task 2016 Record observations and ideas – make studies, sketches and drawings. Take photographs and collect appropriate images. Do this in your sketchbook. Analyse and evaluate images - write about your own work and about other artists work. Annotate some of your studies and write a commentary about your project using artistic vocabulary. Explore ideas by using a range of media, processes and resources. Review your work, modify and refine it as it progresses. Present a Final Piece. This must be a personal response to the theme. Make sure this is completed to your best standard. Ensure that your work shows connections with the artists you have looked at.

Groups- How to answer this question. Week 1. On an A2 sheet of paper make four large size drawings of training shoes and boots. Make each drawing in a different material. HW 1. Leave page 1 BLANK. On pages 2 and 3 of your sketchbook make some black and white studies of the shoe pictures of Lisa Milroy and Andy Warhol. Keep the images small: 3-4 per page. Find the images on Challonerart or on the web. Add notes using your Writing About Art sheet. Week 2. . Make an arrangement of training shoes or boots and take photographs of them. Use a David Hockney joiner style. Arrange these on a large sheet of paper. Then arrange the shoes and make two wide drawings of them. There should be four images on the large sheet. HW 2. Half Term Homework: On page 4 of your sketchbook present two photographs of groups of shoes. On page 5 of your sketchbook, draw 9 shoes. Find some interesting silhouetted figures; bring them to the next lesson. In your sketchbook fill side 6 with an artist study of the group images by Keith Haring. See them on the Pinterest board or find some on the internet. Fill page 7 with studies of the group drawings on Jon Burgerman. Use your Writing about Art sheet to add notes. Week 3. Using the interesting figure images you collected, make a large sheet with drawings studies and paintings of groups of figures. HW 3. Week 4 On an A2 coloured sheet of paper make a series of images combining your self portrait images with the lyrics from songs or poems.

Homework 4. Choose four four-letter words and present them, in the style of Robert Indiana’s “Love”, on page 11 of your sketchbook. Then reproduce your designs in black and white on page 12. Weeks 5. On an A2 sheet experiment with typography and colour. Use print, scraper board, collage, wax resist and other methods HW 5. On Pages 13 and 14 of your sketchbook develop some ideas for your main piece. Modify, refine and combine previous compositions to come up with 2nd and 3rd stage images. Week 6 Continue to develop your project with studies, sketches and notes and a larger developed piece of work, as you plan your Main Piece HW 6 On pages 7 and 8 Choose one of the artists studied so far (or research an alternative appropriate artist) and develop studies based on their work Week 7 Assess your work to date; Plan the work you are to complete over the Christmas period. Christmas: Produce up to 6 further sides of studies as you finalise what to produce in the 10 hour exam.
