1 Natural Forms GCSE Art and Design

2 The original appearance of an object in nature.
What are Natural Forms? TASK 1 Take the time to draw a spider diagram to help you with your ideas. You can do this with a friend, in a group or on your own. Try and think of all of as many items as possible to help begin your sketchbook story.

3 How you will be marked… You will be assessed in the following Assessment Objectives (AO’s): A01 – Developing your ideas from your starting point A02 – Experimenting with different materials/techniques A03 – Recording ideas (sketches/photographs) A04 – Your final outcome You will evidence all these 4 Assessment Objectives through the drawings, photographs, designs, experiments and processes you produce in your sketchbook. For every AO a mark out of 20 will be awarded. This mark will be converted into a grade by the exam board. I will review and assess you sketchbook work regularly and will inform you of the grade you are working at – remember you are developing – you probably will not hit your target grade straight away!

4 Natural Forms… Your work can be hand drawn, computer generated, photocopied, painted, printed, cut, torn, photographed, sewn or constructed. Use Natural Forms as a starting point to produce work in two or three dimensions that represents you and your personal style.

5 To succeed in this project you must:
Collect reference and research that links to natural forms from magazines, DIY stores, the internet, books, stencils, photographs. Display the above in the form of a sketchbook… this does not mean a different design on each page that fills each page… be creative, experiment, sketch, collage, design and annotate your findings and developments, stick things in, fasten things in, sew things in…. Produce your own drawings and experimental work using a variety of media and techniques.

6 To succeed in this project you must:
Contextualise your own work with the work of other artists and designers. Examine how their work influences your own (Research artists who inspire you). Develop and modify your work to produce a personalise response to the theme: Natural Forms. Annotate and evaluate your work during all stages. This can be done via ICT, hand written, tags stuck over the top or hanging…
