8 Mrs. Jeppson English 8 Honors Grades Class Supplies Procedures 2017-2018 8 English 8 Honors Mrs. Jeppson It’s going to be a great year in English Language Arts! We explore the world of reading and writing through short stories, novels, poetry and drama. You will read a lot, write a lot and learn a lot! Honors sections are fast-paced, in-depth, and a lot of fun. Grades 15% Grades will be assigned based on the following scale: Daily Assignments – 40% Writing/Assessments – 60% Grades will be updated weekly. Parents and students are strongly encouraged to check the SIS Portal on a weekly basis to view the most current grades for EVERY class. If you need a login, please contact the office. In honors you will be held to high standards both academically and behaviorally. Grades and citizenship are reviewed each midterm and quarter to determine honors eligibility. You will be required to maintain a B- (80%) average and an S in citizenship. If you fall below this, you will be put on probation. If the probation requirements are not met, you will be moved to an ELA 8 class. Class Supplies Required: Recommended: ☐ 1” 3-ring binder or space in your binder for ELA ☐ One pair of earbuds ☐ Colored correcting pens ☐ One pair of scissors ☐ College-ruled filler paper ☐ Multiple pencils ☐ 1 college-ruled composition book ☐ Novel for silent reading Expectations Consequences Rules Procedures Contact Me… kjeppson@2summit.org 801-572-9007 www.summitacademyschools.org Follow directions quickly. Raise your hand for permission to speak (no blurting). Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat (no wandering). Make smart choices. Keep your dear teacher HAPPY. Be in seat when tardy bell rings. Put proper heading on all work. Do not use electronic devices in class without teacher permission. Use restroom during passing breaks. Maintain a clean and orderly work area. Bring all of your supplies to class daily. Complete all of your work and turn it in on time. Warning: the teacher provides a verbal reprimand/reminder for student to fix the situation. Teacher fixes it: the teacher chooses the consequence. Detention: student will served after school detention. Parent will be contacted. Referral to Administration: a student will be immediately referred to administration for severe behavior problems. 1 2 3 4

YES, WE DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT. English 8 2017-2018 Mrs. Jeppson 8 Late Work Plagiarism My expectation is that ALL assignments be completed to a level of proficiency (70% or higher) and turned in on time. If an assignment is turned in but proficiency is not demonstrated, the assignment will be returned to the student and the work must be completed / redone until proficiency is achieved. Missing work will be accepted (for a reduced grade) until the end of the unit in which it was assigned. After that time, assignments will receive a zero in the gradebook. Printer, Internet, and flash drive issues are not an excuse for late work. Plagiarism is the taking ideas and writings of another and passing them off as one’s own. In this class, plagiarism includes... turning in another’s work as one’s own copying work from a friend before class (or while in another class) including a source but failing to cite it copying an author’s exact words and passing them off as one’s own Students caught plagiarizing will be given a ZERO for the assignment. 1 2 3 4 Absent YES, WE DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT. It is the student’s responsibility to check with the teacher to find out what was missed. A student has two extra days to turn in any work assigned on a day a student was absent. If a quiz was administered on a day a student was absent, the quiz must be made up on the first day the student returns. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due on the first day the student returns. Cheating Technology The teacher will notify the administration and contact parents if cheating / plagiarism is suspected. The student will be given a ZERO for that particular test or assignment. Chromebooks will be used frequently in Language Arts. The majority of class assignments, projects, and assessments will be completed digitally through using Google docs. Each student has access to a Google account for school use, and instructions will be given to obtain this address/password. Students are expected to abide by all school and district digital safety rules and guidelines. Failure to do so will result in said student being banned from technology while in class. Sign up for text messages from Mrs. Jeppson through the REMIND app! Text @f666k to 81010 for regular updates on class assignments and due dates.
