Grading Tests – 30% Quizzes – 20% Notebook checks – 15% Class participation/class work – 20% Homework – 15%

Tests Tests will be announced at least two class periods ahead of time. Tests will usually be given at the end of a unit and a review will be given prior to the test. Students will need to study in order to do well on tests.

Quizzes Quizzes will be given every 2 or 3 lessons (approximately once a week) and they may or may not be announced. This is to ensure that students are taking good notes, completing their homework assignments to the best of their abilities, and staying on track with the course.

Notebook checks You will need to keep a three ring binder to be checked on the day of tests. Inside you will organize: Class notes Bellworks Homework assignments Quizzes A copy of the syllabus

Class work/participation All assignments completed in class (except bellwork) will be included in this category. Participation Points: You will need at least 20 points per quarter. You gain points by contributing to class discussions or defending answers (no “yes” or “no” answers or simple answers like “24.6”). You can lose points by not being prepared for class or speaking when you should be listening.

Homework Homework will be assigned almost every day. All work must be shown to receive credit. You will receive a homework sheet at the beginning of each unit with a list of all homework problems. You will then complete the assigned sections on your own paper. You can discuss homework with classmates but your work should be your own. If your work looks just like somebody else’s, you will both be disciplined for cheating.

Exams Semester 1 Exams will be in January. Exams count as 20% of your semester grade. End of Course Exams? Geometry: last week in April End of Course exam replaces class final and counts as 30% of your Semester 2 grade. If you do not pass you will have to take a remedial course next year.

Late Assignments Late assignments will be accepted up until the test covering that material, after this the student will receive a zero. For each day that an assignment is late, ten points will be deducted from the assignment’s grade. Students will turn in all late work to be graded and must show their work to receive credit.

Missing a Test or Quiz It is YOUR responsibility to schedule a retake within two weeks of the missed date. After this, the grade will be a zero.

Cheating Cheating is never acceptable! If you are caught cheating you will receive a zero and you will be suspended from school.

Emergency Procedures Fire Lockdown Tornado/Severe Weather Remember all drills and emergency situations at MSA are to be conducted silently.

Fire Line up at the door Quietly and in single file line, students will walk down the stairs, out the doors, and across the parking lot to the grass. Remain silent Listen for role call and further instructions Be careful of fire ants

Lockdown Remain calm and quiet inside the classroom. If outside the class (or in the cafeteria), move inside the nearest classroom even if it is not your teacher If you are outside the building altogether you should stop, drop, remain still and wait for further instructions. In the bathroom, you should enter and lock the door of a stall then stand on the toilet. Lock doors and turn out lights and computer monitors. Line up against the walls and out of sight of the doors so an intruder cannot see anyone inside.

Severe Weather Tornado watch- be prepared to respond if weather conditions worsen. Tornado warning- is issued when a tornado has been sighted or indicated by the weather radar. Line up at the door silently. Walk down to the first floor and have a seat in a line against an interior wall. If strong winds strike the building, a teacher will shout “Duck and Cover” at which point you will assume the “Duck and Cover” position until we are given the “all clear”.
