Classroom Procedures

Entering and Exiting Class Entering Class After entering the room, students may not leave without permission. Students may not leave books and materials outside the classroom for any reason Upon entering, students should go to their assigned seats and prepare for class. Begin working on the “Do Now” Exiting Class The teacher will dismiss the class Not The Bell. Do not pack books to exit class until instructed to do so by the teacher. Students will be dismissed by the teacher once all directions have been followed and work areas are in order. Students are responsible for cleaning the area around their desks before leaving the room.

Restroom and Water Restroom Students should use the restroom before class. After entering the classroom the “10-10” rule will be in effect. Water Students should get water before class The “10-10” rule also applies to water.

Need to leave your seat? You can leave your seat to throw something away or hand something in. Please quietly raise your hand. If the teacher is talking, please wait until they are finished. Please do not throw things across the room. Walk calmly and quietly to your destination! Remember, free movement throughout class is a PRIVILEGE.

Being Prepared and Writing Utensils Bring required materials each day. (3-ring binder, loose leaf paper, writers notebook, pen) Writing Utensils Students may use a pencil or a pen (blue or black ink) for notetaking Blue or black ink should be used for formal writing assignments. Typed or computer generated work will be accepted with prior approval of the teacher.

Want to use the computer? Computer & Internet is for class work ONLY. You are NOT permitted to access unauthorized websites (including music) or try to install/alter/change any programs or the operating system. Students will be assigned to a computer and must only use the designated computer. Remember, anything you do on the computer can be tracked back to you!

Pencil Sharpening and Trash Students are to sharpen pencils upon entering the classroom If your lead breaks during class and if your have no other writing utensil, raise your hand and wait for further instructions. Trash Trash will be thrown away when your are dismissed from class. Keep it at your desk until you are dismissed. Pick up all paper around your desk before leaving the room.

We have guests!! Other teachers or administrators may walk into our classroom from time to time. Please respect all guests in our room. Treat them as you would want to be treated. If someone walks in the room, THEY will address you if they need something. Just smile and keep working  (And being awesome!)

Participation and Asking Questions Student participation is MANDATORY!! I will attempt to call on each student at least once a week. Respect teachers and classmate ideas during group work. Be a RISK-TAKER!! – Please ask questions whenever help is needed! THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A STUPID QUESTION!! History is the BEST subject there is, but it can NOT exist with out us asking questions! Do not EVER be afraid to ask a question! (Chances are someone else has the same question as you!) Please raise your hand and wait to be called on. Please use the appropriate voice level. If working on a group project, “ask three then me.” Ask three peers before asking the teacher.

Walking In The Hallways As A Class Students are expected to walk in a straight line when in the hallway. There will be NO TALKING in line. Other students are still in class. All class rules apply in the hallway.

In Summary… Bring all needed materials to class. Students should have writing utensils, paper, index cards, notebooks, highlighters, colored pencils/markers, etc. ready to be used in class. Be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings. Students should be at their desks, have paper out and pens ready/pencils sharpened, and be physically and mentally ready to work. Respect and be polite to all people. Students should listen attentively when someone else is speaking, behave appropriately for a substitute teacher, and refrain from insults, fighting, and other disrespectful or hostile behavior. Respect other people’s property. Students should keep the classroom clean and neat, refrain from defacing school property, ask for permission to borrow another’s possessions, and return those possessions in a timely fashion. Obey all school rules. Students must obey the rules of the school building as well as the rules of the classroom.
