American History and Global Studies 2017-2018 Classroom Procedures American History and Global Studies 2017-2018

Objectives: Students will be able to perform the following tasks consistently and appropriately: Turning in assignments for full credit Turning in late assignments Follow procedure for late entry into class Getting materials missed due to absence Follow all classroom procedures and expectations Students will demonstrate knowledge of classroom procedures via quick quiz following the presentation

Turning in Assignments All assignments (unless otherwise specified) are due at 3:00 pm of the assigned day Any assignment turned in after 3:00 will be considered late and will incur a 30% penalty. This can be avoided by completing the assignment during an after school intervention. Late work due to illness must be turned in no later than the equal amount of days that you were absent for full credit. All assignments (unless otherwise specified) will be turned in to the plastic tray to the left of the classroom door with your corresponding class period number on it. If it’s not in there, it ain’t turned in.

Late Work I will always accept late work, but there is a price to pay for such egregious effrontery. You have the following options: 30% penalty Complete the assignment during after school intervention in my classroom, and have a follow-up discussion about the assignment you have completed. Work is considered late if it is not turned in by 3:00pm on the assigned day

“Missing” Work If you turned it in, it is here in this room somewhere. I don’t take grading home Assignments go from the box to my desk to your hands after being graded, so there is not opportunity for it to leave the room Did you put your name on it? If you didn’t, I can’t very well enter the grade in the gradebook, can I, you knucklehead? I don’t lose things… If you have a concern, I am always available to discuss it in a calm and adult manner.

Questions about your grade? I am happy to help with any concerns you may have about your grade If you don’t agree with a grade you have earned, please see me before or after school only to discuss it. If your argument is correct or even compelling, I will adjust your grade accordingly If you act like and adult, I will listen to an address your concerns like an adult. If you throw a temper tantrum, I will throw you out of my classroom…

Classroom Rules Activity Take out a sheet of paper and a pencil Write down two reasonable and appropriate guidelines that you would like to see be invoked for our time together. These should have to do with classroom behavior and expectations of your classmates. Then write down one privilege that you would like you and your classmates to have You have five minutes

Classroom Rules Activity I will collect the assignment from all classes and pick the most popular four guidelines for our official classroom rules, and post them by Friday. We’ll discuss the feasibility and practicality of privilege. Since they will be your rules, you should have any trouble following them… Questions?
