Aim To use a presentation package to create an interactive advent calendar containing: Text Sound Graphics Hyperlinks (within the presentation) Transitions (using appropriate settings) Animations (using appropriate settings)

Task 1 Open a new PowerPoint document Add another slide so there are 2 available (CTRL + M) Give SLIDE 2 the title: 1 st December SAVE AS: Calendar2012 Make sure this is saved in your ICT folder 5 minutes

Task 2 Search the web for a suitable front cover image, similar to the example. Things to think about: Make sure the image is clear when you resize it on the slide Do not use images with watermarks on them Do not use images with too much detail – you need to see your numbers Add your image to the front cover 10 minutes

Task 3 Use the TEXT TOOL to add the number 1 to your homepage (slide 1) 1 minute

Task 4 Highlight the number 1 – it should look like this when selected Select the HYPERLINK option from the INSERT ribbon 1 minute

Task 5 Link to: PLACE IN THIS DOCUMENT Select slide 2: 1 st December Click OK 1 minute

Task 5 Press the F5 key on your keyboard to run the presentation Try clicking on the number You should go from the homepage to slide 2 with 1 st December written on it 1 minute

Task 6 Add 23 new slides The titles of these slides should be: o 2 nd December o 3 rd December o 4 th December o ….. o 24 th December 5 minutes (CTRL + M) can be used to add new slides to the presentation SHOW YOUR TEACHER ONCE YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS

Task 8 Using the instructions from tasks 4/5, add hyperlinks to the correct slides:tasks 4/5 Number 3 to 3 rd December Number 24 to 24 th December Etc… 5-10 minutes SHOW YOUR TEACHER ONCE YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS

Task 9 You are now going to add a HOME button to every slide of your presentation Go to SLIDE 2 (1 st December) Add the following image from Clip Art to the bottom right corner of your slide: Make this a HYPERLINK to Slide 1 (homepage) – see Tasks 4/5see Tasks 4/5 SHOW YOUR TEACHER ONCE YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS

Task 9 Run the presentation using the F5 key on your keyboard Go to 1 st December Click on the new link - your should now be taken to slide 1 SELECT the and copy it (CTRL + C or right click your mouse) Go to 2 nd December and PASTE (CTRL + V or right click your mouse) PASTE the on to every other slide ( 3 rd December 24 th December ) SHOW YOUR TEACHER ONCE YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS minutes

Task 10 You now have to stop the slides changing any time you click the mouse button Select the TRANSITIONS ribbon and UNTICK the ADVANCE ON MOUSE CLICK option 1 minute

Task 11 Now click APPLY TO ALL (Transitions ribbon) Now run your presentation (F5 key) Test your presentation – click on part of the image without a number on it If your slide does not change then everything is fine 1 minute

Task 12 You are now going to add a door transition to your document Select the TRASNITIONS ribbon and find the DOORS transition then click APPLY TO ALL 2-3 minutes

Task 13 Run your presentation (F5 key) Each slide should now switch to the next choice using the doors transition. Problems? Speak to your teacher 30 seconds

Task 14 Go to 1 st December (slide 2) From the HOME ribbon, choose the Two content option from the LAYOUT menu

Task 15 Search the World Wide Web for the lyrics to a famous Christmas song HIGHLIGHT and COPY the lyrics PASTE the lyrics into the LEFT COLUMN of your 1 st December slide 2-3 minutes

Task 16 In the RIGHT COLUMN of your 1 st December slide, add a Christmas/Winter themed Clip Art image Re-size the image to fit the column (click and drag the handles) 1-2 minutes

Task 17 You are now going to add animations to the text on your slide (content) Select the text in the LEFT COLUMN Go to the ANIMATIONS ribbon Add the FLY IN animation 2-3 minutes

Task 18 You are now going to add animations to the image on your slide (content) Select the IMAGE in the RIGHT COLUMN Go to the ANIMATIONS ribbon Add the SPLIT animation 2-3 minutes

Task 19 Press the F5 key to start your presentation Select the number 1 on your homepage When 1 st December appears, hit the spacebar to start the text animation in the LEFT COLUMN When the text has completely appeared, hit the spacebar to start the image animation in the RIGHT COLUMN Click on the to take you back to the homepage 1-2 minutes SHOW YOUR TEACHER ONCE YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS

Task 20 Your task is to: -Add Christmas/Winter related poems, song lyrics or other examples to the LEFT COLUMN of each slide -Add Christmas/Winter related graphics (Clip Art, Photos etc) to the RIGHT COLUMN of each slide -Add suitable animations so the text appears FIRST and the image appears SECOND -SAVE YOUR SLIDESHOW EVERY 1-2 MINUTES (CTRL + S or go to FILE and click on SAVE) SHOW YOUR TEACHER WHEN YOU ARE DONE!!!
