Overview PearsonAccess Next is a cloud-based platform for district and school staff to complete test administration tasks. TestNav is the online test delivery engine for students. Students can access TestNav from a desktop, laptop, tablet, or Chromebook. Illustration by Tang Yau Hoong

PearsonAccess Next Home Page: Navigation Demonstration to follow PearsonAccess Next Home Page: Navigation 1 2 3 Once you have signed in, you will see the secure Home page. At the top of the page is a black bar with several important functions: PearsonAccess Next logo, your current test administration, your current organization, and the user icon. The gray bar above the blue section mirrors the main sections and tasks, with the addition of a Home button. The large blue section is where you access information and tasks for Setup, Testing, and Reports. PearsonAccess Next 3

Main Section and Options Here are possible options a user may see under each section. Most tasks covered today will be under the Testing section. However, I will show a couple tasks under Setup first.

View Student Information DOE will be providing Pearson student data files that Pearson will then load to PearsonAccess Next. Once loaded, the students can be viewed under Setup, Students. Find the student by last name or select the dropdown next to Search and select the Show all results checkbox. Then select the info icon next to the student. A student window will pop-up. Select the tabs at the top to view the student’s information, including demographic information, student test information, session information, etc.

Proctor Caching ProctorCache is Pearson- supplied software that: allows you to pre-cache test content to your local network before a test; reduces the burden on your internet service provider (ISP) by eliminating redundancy in requests for test content; and stores an encrypted local copy of all precached tests. Proctor caching is highly recommended due to its benefits.

TestNav Configurations Under Setup, TestNav Configurations districts can manage proctor caching computer configurations and response file save locations. This feature hooks up PearsonAccess Next with your proctor caching computer. Technology trainings were held in December with detailed information provided on both proctor caching and TestNav Configurations. See the Technology Setup page on the Delaware Customer Portal for additional technology resources.

Test Session Setup Process In order for students to test, “test sessions” must be setup in PearsonAccess Next. “Test session” refers to a virtual group of students testing in PearsonAccess Next. Test sessions are set up by grade and subject. After the test session is setup, you will then add students to it. As early as 3 weeks before the testing window opens and throughout the testing window (March 19) Create a Test Session Add Students to the Test Session Print Session Student Rosters I’ll review the full process high-level on these couple slides and then go over details on the following slides. Test Session Setup Process (Cont.) After a test session is created and students are added to it, it then must be prepared and started in PearsonAccess Next. “Prepare” and “Start” are actual buttons in PearsonAccess Next, details to follow. First day of testing and throughout the testing window Social Studies: April 16 – June 1 Science: May 7 – June 1 Prepare the Test Session Start the Test Session Unlock Student Tests Social Studies: April 9 – June 1 Science: April 30 – June 1 Proctor Cache The order of when proctor caching can be completed and when test sessions can be prepared does not matter. Test sessions are set up by test (grade and subject) such as Demonstration to follow Create a Test Session From the Home page, under Testing, select Sessions. Select the dropdown menu next to the Start button and select Create/Edit Sessions. Enter the required information as indicated by the asterisks and then select Create. “Test session” refers to the virtual group of students testing in PearsonAccess Next. Test sessions are set up by grade and subject. After the test session is setup, you will then add students to it. Test sessions are set up by test (grade and subject) such as DeSSA Next Generation Science Grade 5 Assessment, DeSSA Next Social Students Grade 4 Field Test, etc.

Add Students to a Test Session Demonstration to follow Add Students to a Test Session DOE will be providing Pearson student data files that Pearson will then load to PearsonAccess Next. Once loaded, students will be available to be added to a test session. Students must be added to a test session in order for them to test. On the Student in Sessions page, add the session to the Session List on left. Select the dropdown menu next to the Start button and select Students. On the Add Students to Sessions tab, select the session name. Search for specific students OR select the dropdown next to Search and select the checkbox next to show all results. You will see only students that Pearson has received from DOE that have registrations for the specific test (grade and subject.)

Add Students to a Test Session (Cont.) Demonstration to follow Add Students to a Test Session (Cont.) Select students, up to 25 at a time, to add to the test session. Select Add. Select Exit Tasks at the top right. Students will then appear in the test session

Session Student Rosters Demonstration to follow Session Student Rosters Session student rosters are available anytime after students are added to the session. Session student roster include test session information, including the password student’s will need to sign in to their test, as well as the student information. Because of this secure information, rosters must be kept in a secure location when not being used for testing. From the Students in Session page, select Resources, then select Session Student Roster. The student roster will open in a new window. Use your browser’s print function to print, if needed. Session information is at the top and then student information in the data grid below.

At least 1 student must be in the test session in order to prepare it. Demonstration to follow Prepare a Test Session Preparing a test session “hooks up” PearsonAccess Next and TestNav in the background. At least 1 student must be in the test session in order to prepare it. Select Prepare Session. Session status will change from Not Prepared to Preparing. Select Refresh, as needed. Once prepared, a Start Session button will appear. TIP: You can prepare multiple test sessions at the same time. Add multiple sessions to your Session List, select Combined View, and then select Prepare All Sessions.

Demonstration to follow Start a Test Session Starting a test session “opens up” the session in PearsonAccess Next, allowing a student’s test to then be accessed. Select Start Session. Session status will change from Ready to In Progress. Once prepared, a Stop Session button will appear. For security purposes, tests can only be accessed between 7 a.m.  4 p.m. EST.

Lock/Unlock a Test Session Demonstration to follow Lock/Unlock a Test Session Locking tests provides an additional layer of test security. A student cannot sign in to their test without it being unlocked. After starting a test session the lock/unlock slider will display at the top. Student tests will be in locked status when the test session is started. Move the slider from locked to unlocked. You can also lock/unlock individual tests by select the status and selecting Unlock/Lock. In addition, tests must be locked after student’s are done testing for the day for security purposes.

Sign In to TestNav Username: student’s ID number Password: retrieve from roster

Demonstration to follow Monitor a Test Session Staff can monitor student testing progress in PearsonAccess Next. The colored bar at the top provides a snapshot of how many students are in each testing status. The Student Test Status column provides the status by individual student (Ready, Resumed, Exited, Active, etc.)

Monitor an Individual Student’s Test Progress Demonstration to follow Monitor an Individual Student’s Test Progress To check the status of a specific student, find the student and select the student’s status in the Student Test Status column. A Student Test & Item Progress screen will pop-up to view the detailed information for that student. Select Refresh to updated the status during testing.

Resume a Test Resume all students in the test session If a student exits a test, the student will need to be resumed before he/she can sign back in to Test Nav. There are two ways to resume a student’s test. Resuming all students in the test session is the most used, however, resuming by individual student may be helpful in certain circumstances, such as if a student gets kicked out of TestNav if attempting to access another program while testing. Resume all students in the test session Resume by individual student Remember to unlock student tests as well. This can be completed before or after tests are resumed.

End of Testing Window All incomplete tests (those that students have logged in to, but not submitted) will automatically be marked complete by Pearson at the end of the testing window.
