1 Managing Student Test Settings

2 Agenda Test Settings and Tools Upload Student Settings
This presentation will address tasks you can perform in TIDE’s Test Settings and Tools menu. TIDE keeps track of student test settings, such as font size and Text to Speech. The Test Settings and Tools task menu allows you to view test settings and tools and upload test settings. While many student test settings can be selected by the test administrator at the start of a test session, other test settings must be entered into TIDE prior to starting a test session.

3 View Test Settings and Tools
The View Test Settings and Tools page includes a form for setting selection criteria to retrieve a student’s test settings and tools. Required criteria, such as the district and school in this example, are marked with an asterisks. Other criteria are optional, such as the SSID, the student’s first or last name, and the grade level. You can further refine your criteria by entering additional demographic information or test settings in the Advanced Search panel, if it is available. For example, you can search for students who have Text to Speech by selecting Text to Speech from the Search Fields drop-down list. Options for each test will appear for you to select the appropriate accommodations in the drop-down menu. Then click Add to add your search criteria. The students you can retrieve on this page are limited by your role’s scope. For example, if you are a district-level user, you can retrieve settings for those students enrolled within your district. If you are a school-level user, you can only retrieve settings for those students enrolled within your school. Click Search to continue. The search panel will automatically collapse, and your search results will appear below.

4 View Test Settings and Tools
TIDE will display all the students satisfying the search criteria. Because not all columns can fit on the screen at once, you may need to click the blue arrow on the right side of the screen to scroll right and display more information. You can edit a student’s test settings and accommodations by clicking the green pencil icon. To make the search form reappear and search for additional students, click the plus sign next to the Search Students panel. For more detailed information on managing student test settings and tools, see your TIDE User Guide.

5 View Test Settings and Tools
You can print student information or export student information from TIDE. First, mark the check box in the leftmost column of the table for the desired students. Then, click the Print, or Export button above the search results.

6 Upload Test Settings and Tools
A second way to edit test settings and tools in TIDE is to use the Upload Test Settings page to compose an upload file in Excel or CSV format and then upload that file. This task is performed by following the same steps you would use to upload new users and students. Select Download Templates to open a new Excel or CSV file. *State, DA, DTC, and SC users are permitted to upload test settings.

7 Upload Test Settings and Tools
After you click Download Templates, a new file will download on your computer. You can enter in the test settings by typing in the student ID into the first column and selecting the options in the drop-down tabs. In the template for test settings, you cannot select values for columns C and D until you have selected a subject in column B. After selecting a subject, choose a test tool in column C, and then select a value for that tool in column D. You will need to enter each test tool setting on a separate row, even if it is for the same student on the same test. Once you have entered the test settings, save your document to your computer. Return to the TIDE Upload Test Settings page, click Browse, select the file you just saved, and then click Upload.

8 Upload Test Settings and Tools
Your file will upload and a preview will appear. Click Next to validate your document.

9 Upload Test Settings and Tools
TIDE will validate the file and display any errors or warnings according to the legend on the page. Click the orange error icons and blue warning icons in the validation results to view the reason a field is invalid. If a record contains an error, that record will not be included in the upload. If a record contains a warning, that record will be uploaded, but the field with the warning will be invalid. If you receive an error or warning on your document, click the error icon that appears in the preview or click Download Validation Report to get a description of the error.

10 Upload Test Settings and Tools
Once all errors or warnings are clear, your document will be validated and ready to upload. You can review the validation results then click Continue with Upload. To upload a different file, click Upload Revised File. To cancel the upload, click Cancel.

11 Upload Test Settings and Tools
You will receive a confirmation that the test settings have been uploaded. If you need to upload additional test settings, click Upload New File.
