1 Make-Up Testing/Undo Student Test Submissions
Welcome to the: “Make-Up Testing/Undo Student Test Submissions” training.

2 Topics User Roles Make-Up Testing Procedures
Options for Online Make-Up Test Sessions Sessions Checklist Create and Add a Student to a Make-Up Test Session Unlock a Unit Resume Student Tests Undo Student Test Submissions Resources Support We will first explain basic user account management permissions required to perform the activities shown in this module. We will then discuss guidance on make-up testing and how to perform activities to resume a student test. We will demonstrate how to un-submit a student’s test with the Undo Student Test Submission functionality. Note: For this activity the user must have the Irregularity Resolution Add-on Role. This training may be viewed by State, LEA/District and School Test Coordinators, and School Test Administrators involved in PARCC assessments.

3 User Roles Click to go back to: Topics Base roles must be assigned to a user account in order to perform the actions covered in the training module. For demonstration purposes, we will use the LEA/District Test Coordinator Role with the Irregularity Resolution Add-on role. Users must be assigned certain roles in PearsonAccessnext to perform actions outlined in this training module. The following user roles can be assigned: LEA/District Test Coordinator Role School Institution Test Coordinator Role Test Administrator Role These base roles will allow users to perform most tasks in this module. The following add-on role must be assigned to certain users to allow them to unsubmit student tests: Irregularity Resolution Role Note: Check your state policy for the person responsible to Undo Student Test Submissions. For this presentation, we will use the LEA/District Test Coordinator role with the Irregularity Resolution Add-on Role. If you have additional questions on user accounts, review the User Role Matrix document to help you understand base and add-on user role options and permissions sets.

4 Make-Up Testing Procedures
Click to go back to: Topics Students who are absent, become ill, or who can no longer test because of classroom, school, or technical interruptions during original units should participate in make-up testing. School Test Coordinators will establish the make-up testing schedules for their schools. Units may be taken out of order for make-up testing only. Students who became ill, had a family emergency, or were not tested on a regular administration date should participate in make-up testing. It is the School Test Coordinator’s responsibility to develop and coordinate a schedule for make-up tests. Schools should consider that units may have different testing times when scheduling make-up tests. Make-up tests may be scheduled for any day after the original unit as long as it falls within the testing window. It is recommended that students who missed a unit continue testing with their original testing group when they return. The student will then complete the missed unit during make-up testing. Please see the Test Coordinator Manual for more instruction on Make-Up Testing Guidelines.

5 Options for Online Make-Up Sessions
Click to go back to: Topics Keep the original testing session: Benefits Reduces the number of sessions Students will use original Student Testing Tickets No additional session set-up Drawback Test sessions remain open until make-up testing is completed Create a new make-up testing session: Track make-up tests through PearsonAccessnext Stop test sessions once students have completed testing Drawbacks Multiple session management Manage additional Student Testing Tickets Once make-up students are identified, Test Coordinators should determine whether the students will remain in the original Test Session in PearsonAccessnext or should be moved into a new “Make-Up” Test Session. There are benefits and drawbacks to each option: If the student remains in the current session: This can minimize the number of Test Sessions open at one time within an organization; New Student Testing Tickets are not needed. The student may use the same login information; and Test Coordinators will not need to set up an additional make-up Test Session. A drawback to this option includes: Test Sessions will remain open until make-up Test Sessions are complete, which will require monitoring by the School Test Coordinators until all Sessions are closed. If the student is moved into a make-up test session: Schools can more easily track students who require make-up testing through PearsonAccessnext ; They can stop individual test sessions completed by assigned students who were present and tested on each scheduled day of testing. The potential drawbacks to this option are: Students will be completing some of the Units with their original testing group, which will require the Test Administrator to have multiple Test Sessions open in one room (i.e., the original Test Session and the make-up Test Session); and It will be necessary to print and use new Student Testing Tickets.

6 Session Checklist Keep the original testing session:
Click to go back to: Topics Keep the original testing session: Unlock the unit that the student will be testing. Use the original Student Testing Ticket to log in. Administer the test. Have the student submit the unit when finished. Create a new make-up testing session: Create and add the student to a make-up test session. Print and use new Student Testing Ticket. If the student remains in the current session, follow this checklist. Detailed steps to this checklist can be found within this module: The School Test Coordinator or state designee will need to unlock the student’s unit to be tested next. This will enable a student to test out-of-order. The original Student Testing Ticket for each unit will be used. The Test Administrator administers the test to the student. The student will submit the unit as usual when done. If the student must be moved into a make-up session, follow this checklist: The School Test Coordinator or state designee will create a make-up test session in PearsonAccessnext and move the student into the session. The School Test Coordinator or designee will need to unlock the unit. This will enable a student to test out-of-order. A new Student Testing Ticket for each session will need to be printed.

7 Create and Add a Student to a Make-Up Test Session
Click to go back to: Topics To move a student to a new “Make-Up” Test Session, follow these steps. Remember, a student can only be assigned one grade/course and subject per PearsonAccessnext test session. In the first step taken to move a student into a make-up session, you must be on the Students in Session page with a session selected. Once the session is selected, be sure you Select the student in the Test Session. Select “Move Students Between Sessions” from the “Select Tasks” drop down menu, and then select “Start.” The student can be moved to an existing session or a new session. To move the student to an existing session, click in the “Sessions” box and select the session. To create a new session, click “Create,” then complete all of the necessary fields. To move the student to the new session, select the new session, then click “Move.”

8 Unlock a Unit Click to go back to: Topics
Once the student is flagged in the appropriate make-up test session, whether a new session is created or the student remains in their existing session, you will need to unlock a particular unit if they are testing out of order. This is necessary so that when students log into the test on testing day, they will start their session with the designated unit. Only one unit at a time per student can be unlocked, so the student must choose the unlocked unit. Note: If a student has been moved into a new Make-Up session, it may be necessary for staff to prepare and start the session before unlocking the unit. To unlock a unit on a student test: Make sure you are on the Students in Session page with a session selected. Find and select your student. The student must be in any status except for Completed or Marked Complete. If a student test is in a Completed status and they need to access the test again, follow the directions in Undo Student Test Submissions found later in this presentation. Note: the Undo Student Tests Submissions activity requires the Irregularity Resolution Add-on Role. Check your state policy for the person responsible to Undo Student Test Submissions. Locate the student that is going to begin testing and unlock the unit to be administered.

9 Resume Student Tests Click to go back to: Topics
Resume a test when a student exits a test, either intentionally or unintentionally, before finishing the test and you want the student to continue the same test. Verify that TestNav is shut down for a student before you attempt to resume the student in the administrative site. When you resume a test, you are resuming the student’s test from the point at which the test was interrupted. The system will upload any test responses, that the student entered, after the interruption, that were saved. When the connection to the testing server is reestablished, the saved responses are transmitted to the testing server and added to the responses already stored there. Only students in Active or Exited status can be resumed.  To resume a test: From Testing > Students in Sessions, search to find the student whose status you want to view or click the down arrow next to the Search button to reveal and select the option to show all results.  Student status is listed in the Student Test Statuses column of the list of students. To resume an individual test: Click the arrow next to the student's status and select either Resume or Resumed Upload.  Resumed Upload status forces TestNav to check for a saved response file (SRF) on the testing machine when the student logs back in to continue.  Resume status uses only the test data last sent to the Pearson server rather than data saved on a specific testing machine. To resume several students at one time: Select the check box next to a student record(s) to select the student(s) whose status you wish to update. Open the task list and select Resume Student Tests and click Start. Select the check all check box next to select all students in this list and click Resume.  This will set the status to Resumed for each student.

10 Undo Student Test Submissions
Click to go back to: Topics Undoing a student test submission is used when a student submitted a unit before completion. Check your state policy for the person responsible to Undo Student Test Submissions. This staff member must have an Irregularity Resolution Add-on Role added to their user account in PearsonAccessnext. The student must be in either Complete or Marked Complete status before a test submission can be undone. Complete status means the student submitted the unit, Marked Complete status means the Test Administrator marked the unit complete for the student. Once you are in the Students in Sessions page: Select the check box next to the student record to select the student whose status you wish to update. Open the task list and select Undo Student Test Submissions and click Start. Select the check box next to the student(s) name in the list to confirm your selection(s) and click Undo Submissions. The student(s) will be placed in Exited status, from which you can Resume a test.
