Classroom News Shared Reading Mrs. Amazeen’s Classroom Newsletter September 26, 2016 Classroom News This past week’s highlights: We’ve had a lot of fun learning about different ways to sort and have enjoyed going to our sorting math centers. We practiced sorting by color, shape, size and type. We compared the story of the Three Little Pigs and The True Story of The Three Little Pigs. We recalled the stories events and created a class pictograph on who’s story we believed, the wolf or the pig. Students worked very hard on their Nursery Rhyme journals. We choral read the nursery rhymes together, searched for sight words in the text and created illustrations. Shared Reading Shared reading is a part of our daily schedule. Each week we focus on a poem and work together to read the poem, identify sight words, ask questions and decode the text. I will be attaching a copy of the poem that we have been working on the previous week to each newsletter. Please read the poem with your child & have them read it to you  Dates to Remember Monday 9/26 Monday “Shark” folders sent home Tuesday 9/27 Monday “Shark” folders return to school Wednesday 9/28 Fun Run Pep Rally! Reading A-Z Reading A-Z is a website that helps to build & strengthen students reading skills and tracks their growth. Each student has been setup with a Reading A-Z account. We will be visiting the website at different times within our school day. We also ask that you encourage your child to visit this site at home, as it will help to build their reading skills. We will be sending home your child’s login information in their Monday Folder. A Peek at the Week Colors & Shapes Reading: 1:1 voice/print touch reading Comprehension Making predictions Using pictures to help decode words Writing: Writing “two thumbs up” sentences (Capital letter, spaces & punctuation) Math: Sorting Shape identification Science Exprimenting with primary colors to make secondary colors Using our senses to investigate Fun Run! Our PTO will be hosting MSE’s first annual fun run on Friday October 7, 2016. We will be participating in the fun run by walking/running laps around our school track to raise money for our school. Your child can help to raise money by having friends & family sponsor them for each lap they walk. More information coming soon! Reminders Monday Folders are sent home each Monday and should return to school on Tuesday. Please return your child’s red/blue folder daily along with their behavior calendar If your child is out due to an illness or if you know your child will be absent from school, please call the front office and let them know. Craft Items Needed In the coming weeks we will be spending time decorating the letters that each student was assigned as part of our “Alpha-What” project. If you have any craft items that you would be willing to donate to our classroom we would greatly appreciate it. Items might include pom-poms, glitter, pasta, stickers, etc.
