A Peek At The Week
-In reading we are continuing to switch to our leveled reading groups. Students should be bringing home daily reading homework.
-During math we will introduce the concept of subtraction. We will also begin using a number line as a tool in solving addition and subtraction problems.
-Writing time will be used on writing a story on things we love. Students will write a draft and then we will practice adding more details in our writing and illustrations.
-Our Core Knowledge time will switch to Social Studies this week and introduce a new unit on Early World Civilizations. We will discuss history, time lines, and introduce Mesopotamia.
Homework Ideas
-Please take time to read with your child every night for minutes.
-Continue work on the number bond sprints that come home each day.

Looking Ahead
-Picture Day is Thursday, October 6th.
-Field Day is scheduled for Friday, October 7th.
-No School on Friday, October 14th.
-United Ways Penny Wars October 3rd-21st. First grade will work together to gain the most weight in our jar of money collected.
-October 17-21st is Spirit Week for the United Way.
Extra News
-Please send your child in comfortable clothes on Friday for Field Day. They may also bring a water bottle, sun screen, hat, and remember to wear tennis shoes.
-If you are able to donate any hand sanitizer or Clorox Wipes they would be greatly appreciated. There is a lot of sharing in our room and unfortunately that means sharing germs too.

-Please get in the routine of taking papers out of the folders every night and returning the folder everyday. It helps SO much with getting papers neatly back and forth!
