ET 494: Senior Design Design of a New Hammond Head Start Center By: Cody Menard and Taylor Bishop Instructor: Dr. C. Koutsougeras Advisor: Mr. R. Edward Rode

Completed Work We developed a design for a Head Start Center in Hammond, La. We completed floor plan drawings, and elevation drawings, using Auto-cad. Also, we found the building and fire codes, the site location, and began the preliminary building estimate. This building will be 9,000 square feet, including multiple rooms such as: classrooms, bathrooms, offices and other specific rooms.

Site Location 20368 E. Highway 190 Hammond, La. 70401 2.63 acres of cleared land Priced at $399,900 Ideal location. Located within a couple miles of Hammond Eastside Elementary Magnet School. Also, multi-family homes surrounded making it a close destination for many. Located directly on Highway 190 allowing for easy traffic flow.

Building Codes The building codes come from the Hammond Zoning Ordinance booklet. The codes we are using are from these areas. Part 1: Principles and Objectives Part 3: Schedule of District Regulations Adopted Part 5: Off-Street Parking and Loading Requirements

Fire Codes The fire codes were taken from the NFPA 101: Life Safety Code booklet. The edition used was from 1994. NFPA stands for National Fire Protection Association. The main codes are from the following chapter’s sections. Chapter 26: New Building Occupancies Section 26-1 - General Requirements Section 26-2 – Means of Egress Requirements Section 26-3 – Protection
