P.E. Waiver Students who have completed one full season of participation in an OHSAA sanctioned sport or by completing one semester of Marching Band at River Valley High School will have .25 P.E. credit waived on their transcript. For athletes wanting to waive the PE courses mark the spaces on the registration sheet that says, “I will participate in 2 seasons of a sport or marching band for a P.E. waiver. “ and “I do NOT want PE on my schedule.” Athletes and marching band members are welcome to take PE if they wish.

Athletic Eligibility For athletic eligibility, students must take and pass 2.5 credits the preceding quarter to the athletic season and have a 1.0 GPA. Remember Phys.Ed. and Physical Conditioning are only worth .25 credits (per course). Freshmen Focus is worth .25 credits 1st semester only. Also, if you have a difficult course, it is wise to schedule more courses the same semester as the difficult course to buffer in case you struggle in the difficult course.

Online Courses River Valley High School offers credit recovery courses and electives not presently offered through online course offerings. Students may also take online courses in place of courses not able to fit in their schedule. Students may take one ½ credit course at a time. River Valley will pay for the course provided the student has at least one period where they can work in the computer lab on the online course daily at school. Students are not permitted to take multiple courses at once. If a student fails a course for any reason, River Valley Local Schools will bill the family the cost of the course.

Study Hall Policy Students may not have more than 2 study halls per semester. This means students need to request a minimum of 6 blocks of courses with a maximum of 8 blocks of courses.

How does the Block work? A B C D 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1st Semester 90 mins B C (5th/6th or 6th/7th) D 1 (45) 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1st Semester 2nd Semester At RVHS there are 4 blocks, 9 periods. Lunch is offered 5, 6, and 7th period. Students will need to request courses that fill at least 6 periods of the day with classes and 1 lunch period per semester to fill 7 periods out of the 9. This will leave 2 periods for study hall. The maximum amount of study halls are 2 periods per semester. Core academic courses are 2 periods (1block – 90 mins) in length and last for one semester. First semester ends in mid-January, all courses end at the semester excluding choir, band, orchestra, Intro to Engineering Design and Ag courses (these courses are 1 period (1/2 block all year long). Due to block scheduling our courses run at a faster pace covering 2 days worth of material (as compared to a traditional schedule where students take courses all year long) in one day. Attendance is VERY important to keep up with the course material.

How do Ag, Choir, Orchestra, and Band fit into the Schedule? 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1st Semester Choir Ag English 9 Physical Science Lunch Elective Band 2nd Semester American History Algebra I Study Hall

Career Technical Students There are a wide variety of two-year programs at Tri-Rivers Career Center, starting the junior year. Reminder – Students apply for Tri-Rivers the Dec. of their Sophomore year. Minimum requirements are 6.0 core credits (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, P.E., and Health) with a minimum of 1.0 GPA. Some programs have higher GPA requirements. Encourage students to do their best to keep all opportunities open.’
