1 Registration for 2018-2019 School Year
1/1/2019 Puyallup High School 1/1/2019 Registration for School Year Welcome to Pre-Registration. Today’s program presents information regarding The Course of Study Your Career Path Your Graduation Inventory and Your Course Interest Survey You have in front of you a Course of Study and Your Graduation Inventory. The Course Interest Survey , a bubble-in sheet, will be given to you at the next advisory on April 1. #3 An important date that you can place in your planner is April 1. This is the date of your next advisory and the date that you must make your final decision for the courses you will take for the school year. Any students interested in Running Start for should attend the information meeting held at Rogers High School on April 28, at 7:00 p.m # 4 Registration next year will be a personalized walk-around registration in August. You will be mailed a registration packet during the summer which will include a master schedule, a list of your course selections, and a worksheet to help you plan your daily schedule. #5 Please open your Course of Study. Your Course of Study is your reference book for all questions related to course offerings, high school graduation requirements, and college entrance information. #6 At this time we would like to cover some important aspects contained in the Course of Study. Be sure to review page 3. In particular note that you must have earned 5 credits in grade 9 and at least 15 credtis in grades 10, 11, and 12 including all required courses in order to participate in Commencement exercises. You will also want to review page 4 that explains other courses that satify graduation requirements. #7 Please turn to page 7 regarding graduation requirements. You need the following required classes along with 6.5 credits of electives. 2 years of Math 4 years of English 2 1/2 years of Social Studies 1 year Occupational Education 1 semester of health 2 years of physical education 2 years of science #8 Continuing on page 7 review the second column which outlines the requirements for admission to a 4-year college. College requirements vary--be sure to check the catalogues of your prospective colleges. Use the College Quest computer program in Student Services to identify colleges that meet your needs. #9 The best educational planning is done when classes are selected that prepare your based on your career interests. [] Map out a cours of study that includes requirements and electives each semester. [] Try out career path related classes early so you can take advanced classes later or change your career path. 1/1/2019 High School Graduation Requirements* (9-12) Class of 2021 1/1/2019 Science credits (2.0 lab & 1.0 lab or non-lab) Mathematics credits (through Algebra II) English credits Health .5 credits (Includes Life Issues in grade 9) Fitness credits (1.0 can be PPR*) Fine Arts 2 credits (1.0 can be PPR*) Occupational Ed. 1 credit Social Studies 3 credits World Studies – 1.0 American Studies II – 1.0 Civics.50/SS elective.50 World Language 2 credits (2.0 can be PPR*) Electives 4 credits *PPR = Personalized Pathway Requirement 24 credits must be earned in grades 9-12

5 1/1/2019 High School Graduation Requirements* (9-12) Class of 2021 – PPR Process 1/1/2019 Health credits If your student deferred taking Health here are alternate ways to acquire the Health credit: Health Nutrition and Fitness Anatomy and Physiology Sport medicine 1 or 2 Child Development and Relationship Development PPR only applies to Fitness, Fine Art , and World Language Fitness credits (1.0 can be PPR*) Fine Arts 2 credits (1.0 can be PPR*) World Language 2 credits (2.0 can be PPR*) Regardless of Pathway all students must complete .5 credit in Health, .5 credit in Fitness, and 1.0 credit in Fine Art.

Students who earn “B’s” or better in all pathway concentration classes can earn a pathway honor cord at graduation. Please see Mrs. Jellison, Career Specialist at PHS for questions/paperwork. Select course of study that is related to your interests.

9 Making your student’s Request matter
1/1/2019 Making your student’s Request matter Be sure to have your student choose their classes carefully and with the intent that they will remain in the course all year Be sure to pick alternate classes that your student will be willing to take should their first choice not be available. Reminder from March 12 until August no changes will be made to request so that we can work on the master schedule. In August we do not change schedules for teacher preferences. Schedule changes are contingent on space available in classes.

11 1/1/2019 1/1/2019 Remember... In order to participate in commencement you need to fulfill all of the graduation requirements including the High School and Beyond Plan and meet state requirements on the Smarter Balanced Exams.
