Consul A chief executive in Roman government

dictator An absolute rule Example: Julius Caesar

plebians Social class of Roman commoners Ex. minor landowners, farmers, merchants, craftsmen

imperator The commander in chief

praetor Official in Roman government who is in charge of enforcing civil law- acts as judge, can therefore create law

Pax Romana The peace between all the different nationalities of people that lived within the Roman Empire

Republic Form of government where the leader is not a monarch and some of the citizens can vote

senate A group of patricians who would serve government for life
