Exam Information for students 2016 - 2017

Invigilators - Employed by the school to conduct mock and Public Examinations - Ensure timings are correctly set - Ensure students have the right paper, have read the instructions and are comfortable to do the exam. - Move around the room throughout the exam, they are trained to observe and look out for possible cheating. - Available to answer questions on the process and provide help (e.g. a new pen, extra paper, some equipment) if candidates raise their hands.

Preparation We are running the mock exams as if they were real examinations. This is to help you get to know the systems and procedures in anticipation of the real exams in May and June. This will hopefully help to reduce worry and stress as you will have been through a set of exams and know the steps you need to take. You need to consider your revision and preparation time. Gather all your notes, equipment and revision books and make sure you have them with you when you need them.

Exam Preparation - Be prepared – check your timetable - Bring everything you need in a CLEAR pencil case, black pens, pencils, calculator, orange Exam ID Card 4.That means we will challenge one another and we make no apologies. We will set high standards for students and for staff and if any of us fall below those standards, they will be challenged. 5.This is done because we want the best for your children and for every member of this community. 6.That challenge will be given in a supportive environment. Great success comes when there is a balance of challenge and support. Too much challenge and we can destroy confidence, too much support and we can lose belief in ourselves that we can always improve.

Exams – Where and When? - Know where you are going and when – check the Exams Noticeboard to find out which room you must report to and at what time - You will be asked to report earlier than the actual start time of the exam as it takes time to seat everyone in the correct order, read the warning notices and distribute the exam papers 7.Support and challenge both motivated by the fact that we want the very best for everyone 8.All of that is summed up in the words you see in the hall and on the badge that every student wears – believe, achieve, succeed

You must bring your ID card to EVERY exam. You must bring your ID card to EVERY exam.

Warning Read your timetable carefully If you turn up at the wrong time or on the wrong day you will not be able to take the exam

Illness or Injury If you are ill or injured please try to come to school if possible as exams can not be rearranged. Special arrangements can be made for candidates with an injury or feeling poorly. If you cannot take the exam on the day you must visit the Doctor and obtain a Doctor’s Certificate.

Mobile Phones, iPods, smart watches etc. - Once the exam has started, if you are found with any device capable of communication with the Internet (switched on or switched off), the Board will be informed and action will be taken - Marks will be lost if a phone, iPod or smart watch are in your possession even if there is no evidence of it being used - If there is evidence of a phone, iPod or smart watch being used during the exam you can be disqualified from part or ALL of your exams (even the ones you haven’t yet taken) - DO NOT BRING YOUR PHONE, IPOD, SMART WATCH OR DIGITAL WATCH TO YOUR EXAMS

Starting the Exam Listen to the invigilator and do what you are asked If you have a problem put up your hand and wait for the invigilator

During the Exam - You must face the front at all times. - No talking or communicating with others. - Follow the instructions of the Exams Officer and Exam Invigilators. They are members of staff. - If you need to ask a question, raise your hand, a member of staff will come to you. - You will not be able to leave the exam until it is finished.

At the end of the exam - Check you have filled in the grid on the front of your answer booklet with your name as appears on your passport/birth certificate, centre number (36716) and candidate number You may not leave your place until you are told to do so by the invigilator. Leave the exam room quietly.

Rules of Conduct - Exams and Controlled Assessments are important events and you must follow the rules -Rules are set by JCQ not school and are in place to ensure that exams are secure and fair to everyone - If you break the rules (deliberately or accidentally) you will be penalised

Rules of Conduct - An exam is in progress from the time the candidates ENTER THE EXAM ROOM until ALL students are dismissed. Breaking the rules is likely to lead to disqualification. - This is not just a threat, it does happen.
