1 Examinations Information

2 Examination Timetables Your personal copy of the exam timetable will be sent home before each exam session. You must check this and make sure all exams you are sitting, including any resits you have entered for, are included on it. If you think there are any mistakes or omissions you must see Miss Rheumer as soon as possible. A copy of the whole school exam timetable will be displayed on the exam notice board and it will also be on the school website. Please check the venue of each of your exams.

3 Certification Entries – Y11 and Y13 In the summer session you will be entered for individual modules and for certification for any courses you have completed You will be sent a statement of entry and it is important that you check this to make sure that you have been entered for certification for all of the courses you have completed. This is especially important if you completed any courses early.

4 Candidate Numbers Your candidate number is individual to you and is written on the exam timetable that was sent home recently. Your number will stay the same until you leave JCG. Memorise your number and, when required, fill it in carefully on the front of your exam paper.

5 Seating Plans During each exam you will be seated at a particular desk. On your desk there will be a card with your name, candidate number and photograph on it. It is important that you sit at the correct desk.

6 Times Morning exams start at 9.00am. You should be outside the exam room by 8.45am. Afternoon exams start at 1.30pm. You should be outside the exam room by 1.15pm. If you are ill on the day of an exam, or you are going to be late, you should phone the school office on 516200 as soon as possible to let them know.

7 Timings You will not receive a 5 minute warning before the end of your exam. Please make sure you can see the whiteboard and a clock and keep an eye on the time.

8 Clashes Two exams in the same session: > 2 hours – 15 minute break > 3 hours – one exam will be moved to the morning or afternoon of the same day – please collect a new copy of your timetable from Miss Rheumer Three or more exams on the same day: > 5½ hours for GCSE > 6 hours for A level one of your exams will be moved to the following day and you will be required to be supervised overnight

9 Equipment Make sure you have all of the equipment you need for each exam, e.g. pen, pencil, rubber, ruler, calculator (if allowed), etc. You must write in black ball point pen. You must not write in blue pen or pencil. You are not allowed to use erasable pens or gel pens. Highlighter pens can be used on questions but not on your answers. Tippex and ink eradicators are not allowed. Your equipment may be loose or in a see through pencil case or plastic bag. Calculator lids are not allowed in the exam room.

10 Access Arrangements If you have access arrangements such as a word processor, a reader, a prompt, read aloud or a separate room you will not sit your exams in the main exam room – please collect a new copy of your timetable from Miss Rheumer. If you have access arrangements such as extra time or rest breaks you will sit your exams in the main exam room.

11 Regulations You must follow all examination regulations. A copy of these will be sent home before each exam session. Failure to follow the regulations may result in you being disqualified from all the examinations in that session. You must enter the exam room in silence and there must be no communicating with any other student once you are in the room. Mobile phones must be switched off and left outside the exam room. Cameras, ipods or any other electrical devices are also not allowed inside the exam room.

12 Regulations Water bottles are allowed in the exam room but must have their labels removed. Sweets other than cough sweets are not allowed in the exam room. Cough sweets must be in see through wrappers. Packets of tissues are not allowed in the exam room. You must not have anything written on your hands or arms. You must leave the exam room in silence; there may be other students sitting longer exams in the same room as you.

13 Invigilators In every exam there will be members of staff invigilating. Go to the toilet before the exam but if you do need to go during the exam raise your hand and an invigilator will accompany you to the toilet. If you are concerned about anything or need anything during the exam, do not look around or attempt to communicate with other students. Raise your hand and an invigilator will help you. It is too late for us to do anything after the exam is finished so please make your concerns known at the time.

14 Incidents If something unexpected occurs during an exam, e.g. the fire alarm sounds, it is important that you follow the instructions given by the invigilators and do not attempt to communicate with any other student in any way.

15 Special Consideration If something happens which may affect your performance in your examinations – illness, bereavement, etc – please make sure that you inform Miss Rheumer as you may qualify for special consideration. In order to apply for special consideration you will need to provide written evidence from a medical professional, parent or your Head of Year.

16 Results November results will be given to you in school. Results from summer examinations will be given out from 9.00 on the appropriate results day: A level Thursday 14 August GCSE Thursday 21 August If you are unable to collect your results please inform Miss Rheumer so that alternative arrangements can be made.

17 Post-results services Remark Copy of script Clerical check Forms to request post results services will be available from outside the exams office.

18 Certificates – Y11 and Y13 Your certificates will arrive in the autumn term. GCSE certificates will be given out in sixth form assembly and A level certificates will be will be given to you at the awards evening. If you are not be able to attend the awards evening you can collect your certificates in school afterwards or they will be posted home to you. Please keep your certificates safe. If you lose them the exam boards will not issue copies.
