Floor Plan Layout I chose to do a one floor pole barn first of all to save money. Pole barns are constructed quickly can be customized. I made the rooms large to maximize space. I was attempting to get as much space for the occupants by limiting the amount of walls, stairways, and doors that can eat up square footage. I wanted the home to be easily accessible, and I laid the rooms out in an effort to make sleeping easier, by separating it from common areas like the living room, the bathroom, a sometimes noisy utility room, simply by putting a hallway and kitchen between them. There is an exit on both ends of the house, and plenty of windows to escape from in case of an emergency. I place the bathrooms in the back of the house for maximum privacy.

Work Schedule Buy Property and plot plan. Excavating 4 days, 40 hours. Foundation 4 days, 40 hours, to set up forms, pour, curing, setting posts. Supporting structure, walls, joists, trusses and roofing, headers for windows and doors 12 days and 120 hours. Exterior walls and siding on roof and outside walls insulation, 5 days 50 hours. Running electric and plumbing, 5 days, 50 hours. Drywall, painting, laying floor, setting up solar panels, installing windows, doors, digging cistern and installing guttering, back up generator, install appliances, furniture. 20 days.

Conclusion I thoroughly enjoyed this project. I will definitely apply what I learned from it when I build my own home, perhaps even a pole barn house. I found it interesting that building a green home is far more achievable than I had thought. With the help of Armstrong Steel Buildings, I got some insight into how a pole barn house is assembled. I'd like to thank Gary Baker whom I spoke with.
