2 There are many Types of drawings in a set of Blueprints
Floor plan- A floor plan is a layout of each room within a building. There are 2 types of floor plans Closed Floor Plans- Separate rooms by enclosing them with walls and an entry door for noise reduction and privacy. Open floor Plans- have few walls and they save on cost of building materials. The home tends to appear more spacious in open floor plans

Foundation plans show the entire foundation and framing that needs to be done

Electrical plans show the electrical lines and work that needs to be done/will be present on the property

Plot plan shows the lot and yard that surrounds the structure

Elevation drawings show the façade of the structure (rear, front, sides)

Illustrated Presentation shows an illustrated version of what the structure will look like when completed

9 All floor Plans need to be drawn to Scale
Drawing to scale means that each square on a graph paper represents a given number of feet, inches, or centimeters. Most residential plans are drawn in ¼” = 1ft To create a scale drawing you must measure the room and furnishings.

10 Practice drawing each floor plan symbol in your smash book.
Floor Plan Symbols Each rendered floor plan contains common floor plan symbols. These symbols are used to represent architectural, electrical, and plumbing features on a floor plan You need to know these floor plan symbols for class Doors Windows Sinks Upper and lower cabinets Range Refrigerator Tub Shower Toilet Fireplace Stairs Light switch 110 and 220 outlet Ceiling light Cut out and place the Floor Plan Symbol reference sheet in your Smash Books. Practice drawing each floor plan symbol in your smash book.

11 Important to know for kitchen design Work Triangle in the Kitchen
Is the route from the center of the sink, to the center of the stove to the center of the refrigerator and back to the sink. All this should measure feet Smaller work triangles will save steps. For safety reasons there should be no cross traffic. Cross traffic can cause spills and other accidents. Draw this in on your floor plans from yesterday

12 Floor Plan Symbol Assignment
Draw a floor plan of a home that has an open floor plan in the dining room, family room and kitchen. It contains 2 bedrooms and 1 bath with stairs that go down to the basement (remember ¼” is 1 foot.) The dimensions are….. (it will look like the shape on the right) Fill in your floor plan with all of the symbols we talked about in class. You design the floor plan however you want think about traffic paths, the work triangle, and leave enough space for walking. make sure to include all Floor plan symbols. 28 feet 37 feet 26 feet 12 feet 11 feet 16 feet
