Unit Standards Standard 1.0 Media, Techniques and Processes Students will understand and apply media, techniques, and processes. The student will 1.1Demonstrate the use of knowledge and technical skills in at least one specific medium. 1.2Demonstrate an understanding of the safe and responsible use of art media and tools. 1.3Create visual art that communicates ideas through the use of media, techniques, and processes

Process for each and every page: Step #1 Turn your paper horizontally Step #2 Using the width of the ruler mark off the binding area of the FRONT of your page on the LEFT. Step #3 Fold and crease on the line you just drew, folding it will help you remember the binding area on the BACK of your page is on the RIGHT. FOLD Step #4 Turn your paper to the back (how do I know which is the back? The side with the binding area is on their RIGHT). Place your heading in the Binding area

Step # 5 Write the name of the ELEMENT in a way that is expressive of it. Step #6 Make examples of the featured Element in the margins, labeling different types when appropriate. (for example the 5 kinds of lines or the types of shapes) Step # 7 Create your “ EGGCELENT” Art work starring the featured element on the front. (How do I know which is the the side with the binding area to the LEFT, and without the one inch margin.) Step #8 Select one or two of the principles (you will have to have two principles for one of your pages because there are 7 elements and 8 principles. (Composition/Unity) 10 points per item. My total score on the LINE page is _____________ Deduct 5 pts. Space Checklist for SPACE Page  Binding Margins match on all pages  Inch margins on the back of all pages are straight and 1 inch  Art work demonstrates a high regard for craftsmanship as demonstrated in his/her use of art media, tools and techniques.  Art work relates to your theme and incorporates 1 and or 2 point perspective.  The word SPACE should be written with block letters created by using 1 or 2 pt. perspective.  The definition is complete and readable/legible  The margins must contain labeled examples of all 6 techniques artists use to create the illusion of depth on a flat surface, see ArtTalk book page  All perspective lines must converge at the appropriate vanishing point/points.  The art work must also demonstrate 3 of the 6 techniques artisst use to create the illusion of depth on a flat surface, the converging lines DO NOT count towards this (see pg ArtTalk).  The text and images on the back of the page must be organized well (Composition/Unity) 10 points per item. Value Checklist for VALUE Page  Binding Margins match on all pages  Inch margins on the back of all pages are straight and 1 inch  Art work demonstrates a high regard for craftsmanship as demonstrated in his/her use of art media, tools and techniques.  Art work relates to your theme.  Art work must evidence 3 distinct values, the white of the paper, a medium, and a dark value. (more values are encouraged) You can self select the value technique you want to use for the artwork and also, the medium.  The word VALUE should be written in a way that shows gradation of value (5 distinct values should be evident).  The definition is complete and readable/legible  The margins must be divided neatly and turned into 4 value.  One value scale using blending.  One value scale using hatching.  One value scale using cross hatching.  One value scale using stippling.  The text and images on the back of the page must be organized well (Composition/Unity) Approx. 8 points per item. COLOR Checklist for COLOR Page  Binding Margins match on all pages  Inch margins on the back of all pages are straight and 1 inch  Art work demonstrates a high regard for craftsmanship as demonstrated in his/her use of art media, tools and techniques.  Art work features the appropriate element  The word COLOR should be written with open letters that can be filled with color.  The definition is complete and readable/legible  Margins are divided into equal spaces.  One margin has a tint value scale/ labled.  One margin has a shade value scale/labled.  One margin has a tone value scale/labled.  One margin displays your personal favorite colors/ labled (my favorite colors, or artists pics, use something creative to indicate these are your favorite colors)  A small color wheel must fit on the back and can be made by mixing paint or cut out construction paper, or magazines, colored pencils, must contain primary, secondary, and tertiary colors.  The text and images on the back of the page must be organized well (Composition/Unity) Approx. 8 points per item.
