Welcome to Back to School Night! Thank you for coming tonight! Mrs. Edi Pettegrew Thursday September 3, :30-8:00.

Family and Background Originally from the midwest, have lived in CO for 12 years. Married, 2 kids, 1 dog New residents to Woodmoor. Bachelor’s in Organizational Management, Master’s in Elementary Education -Fifth year teaching -Passionate about teaching the young child and child development. -Training in early childhood, classical, and Music Education. My hobbies include photography, graphic design, and making music. My husband and I met at a camp in Buena Vista where we were both mt. guides, we still love spending time outdoors with our kids!

Philosophy and Management Philosophy: Passionate about educating the whole child. Character education present in our daily interactions. Regularly integrate different modalities of learning (art, technology, hands on). Use music to support teaching. View education as a partnership between parent and teacher. Management: As a class, students work to earn privileges. -Ex: A few minutes of extra recess, you tube clip to support science, part of our lesson outside... -Apply as needed. -Individual behavior chart with certain students Praise and encouragement oriented. The students and I use a pebble jar to earn privileges, ask them how it works!

Curriculum Language Arts: Balanced Literacy instruction that integrates all elements of reading and writing and meets the needs of emergent, early and fluent readers. Social Studies: Social Studies Alive Science: Foss Science (insects, soils, solids and liquids) Math: Everyday Math Grammar and Spelling: Daily Language Instruction Spalding (10 words a week) Once Spelling starts we will have a test EVERY FRIDAY!

Homework Every Friday a packet of homework will be sent home. Homework should take about 30 minutes 5 night a week. Each week homework includes: -A Reading Log (students should read aloud 20 minutes, 5 days a week) -A literacy passage targeted to your students needs. -Spelling words, I recommend you make flashcards and practice a little each night. -Math Homework is graded based on EFFORT! We will begin planners after Winter break!

Schedule School calendar and lunch menu is on the website Weather delays and cancellations on website, text, or (sign up in parent portal). Call attendance office to report your child’s absence, although an to me is also helpful! -Homework will be given once student returns from being absent. Field Trips- Butterfly Pavilion in Fall, another TBD in Spring. Classroom Celebrations! Birthdays- me if you’d like to bring treats. Fall, Winter, and Valentines Day class party Please provide your student with one healthy snack per day. Our Specials Music PE Art Music 21 st Century PE

Communication Bi-Weekly newsletter will be on the class website and in homework packet. Direct communication with me, is best. Once planners start, communication there is great too! Volunteer Opportunities If you would like to serve in our class regularly or occasionally please let me know! I usually respond to s very quickly, but usually not later than 24 hours.

Thank you! You are your child’s first and best teacher, I’m honored to partner with you and share this year with your family! Thank you for all of your support as we work together to make 2 nd grade great! I value partnership with you as my greatest asset this year!
