iPad Parent Training Gulf Beaches and Kings Highway Elementary Magnet Schools Centers for Innovation and Digital Learning

iPad Mini and iPad Air  Students in Kindergarten(after first two weeks), First and Second grades will be assigned iPad Minis  Students in Third, Fourth and Fifth grades will be assigned iPad Airs

Key Rules for iPad Home Use  Always hold the iPad with two hands when moving/using it  Have a spot where the iPad stays when it is not in use – “safe spot”  Charge your iPad each night in its “safe spot” So its ready to use at school next day.  Do not eat food or drink liquids near the iPad or while using the iPad  Do not leave the iPad where a younger sibling or pet can get to it

Educational Uses at Home  App Store is not accessible for students  Teachers will assign work for students each night to do at home

Turning the iPad On  To turn the iPad on, press and hold the button on the top, right of the iPad until the Apple logo appears on the screen. It is silver and shaped like an oval.

Turning the iPad Off  To turn the iPad off, press and hold the button on the top, right of the iPad. It is silver and shaped like an oval. Then, slide the bar on the screen to the right.

Charging the iPad  Charge the iPad each night  Plug the large, block end of the charging cord into the wall  Plug the small, flat end of the charging cord into the bottom of the iPad

Opening Apps  To open an app, you simply press on the app icon with one finger and it will launch

Minimizing Apps  To minimize an app, you can either press the home button or pinch the screen closed with four fingers on one hand

Closing Apps  To completely close an app (which must be done each time a student finishes an ST Math session), double-click on the home button, then swipe the small image of the app to the top of the iPad

Connecting to Your Home WiFi Network  Open Settings  On the left-hand side of the screen, select WiFi  Select your home router  Enter your password  You will know you are connected once you see the WiFi symbol at the top of the screen

Parent Responsibility Form  All equipment and accessories (iPad, case and charger) belong to Pinellas County Schools  Internet will be accessible (Will help locate WiFi hot spots in your community)  Parents agree to monitor and control their children’s use of the iPad  Software is licensed to Pinellas County Schools and is not modifiable  iPad may not be used with any mal intent  Fill in the two blanks with Kings Highway Elementary (KHE)  No expectation of privacy  Check both boxes to show your acceptance of provisions and replacement cost  Sign and date
