Social movement:
A long-term conscious effort to promote or prevent social change.
EX: Civil rights movement

African Americans were forced to live as 2nd-class citizens.
** Limited on education, voting rights, sitting on buses, etc….
** Boycotts, marches, and demonstrations resulted in order to receive the freedom that African Americans deserved!!

Outlawed the various methods that had been used to deny African Americans the right to vote.
