GANG #3-the “J- Nicks” ~These criminal verbs live on the outskirts of town and often get in fights…in fact, some gang members have lost an eye (“i”) {but only in 3 rd person plural Preterite}. ~Like the Y-cons, they’re not exclusive; any verbs that want to commit crimes (verb irregularities) are welcome (-ar, -er, & -ir) in this Gang. ~When initiated into the J-Nick Gang the verb is given an alias (NICKname – hence the name of the gang) which is an entirely new verb stem that must be memorized. ~A long, long time ago…some of the gang members were having a secret meeting in the cemetery to decide what crimes they would commit in the Preterite tense. When the verb police attempted to raid the meeting, the J- Nicks tripped and fell over the tombstones as they ran away in the dark, and their perfect rear ends got all smashed, bumped, and bruised. All of their accent marks got scratched off their rear ends as well and doctors couldn’t repair them so they were lost forever. None are used now. All that remains of the J-Nicks’ endings are: (yo) -e (nosotros/as) –imos (tú) –iste (él, ella, Ud.) –o (ellos, ellas, Uds.) -ieron

The verb who considers himself “Z Best Verb of zem all” in the J-Nicks Gang is… Hacer *This verb’s nickname is “Hic” except for the 3 rd personal singular “Hiz”. This is the only verb to carry 2 nicknames so his special alias is “el Queso” (because “the cheese stands alone”) *This verb abides by the theory, “I do what I want!” including having two NICKnames! Hice Hiciste Hizo Hicimos Hicieron

Querer… Nickname: QUIS Known for being a romantic/the “quising” (kissing) verb He’s in charge of all parties to which ladies are invited Quise Quisiste Quiso Quisimos Quisieron

Venir… Nickname: VIN “the Italian guy” Vine Viniste Vino Vinimos Vinieron

Poner… Nickname: PUS This verb loves his “PUSsy cats” but don’t mess with him or his claws will come out. He seems gentle but is, in fact, quite dangerous….. Puse Pusiste Puso Pusimos ----------- Pusieron

Saber…. Nickname: SUP The “Soup” Guy – he actually wanted to be a chef but couldn’t afford culinary school so joined the gang. His soup is fantastic but don’t make him angry or he will say “No SUP for you!!!” SupeSupimos Supiste --------- SupoSupieron

Poder….. Nickname: PUD Where’s my spoon?! Do NOT get between this verb and his chocolate pudding. PudePudimos Pudiste------- PudoPudieron

Caber… Nickname: CUP You guessed it – this small-statured verb is rocking the Mini Cooper. It is mostly because he is the only verb that will fit in it so he isn’t worried about someone from a rival gang stealing it. Cupe Cupimos Cupiste CupoCupieron

Tener, Estar, & Andar “the cousins” Nicknames:TUV ESTUV ANDUV For example: Tuve Tuviste Tuvo Tuvimos Tuvieron

Dije Dijiste Dijo Dijimos Dijeron The 1 st Lieutenants (also known as the “J’s”): Decir, Traducir, & Conducir Nicknames: DIJ TRADUJ CONDUJ *These are the toughest guys in the J-Nick Gang. They are the muscle of the group. They’ve been in so many fights that they’ve lost an eye (“i”) in 3 rd person plural: ieron eron ** Any verb that ends in “-vowelcir” is allowed to be a Lieutenant in the J-Nick Gang because they agree to commit the crime of changing their “c” to a “j” before adding the “J’s” endings.

Traje Trajiste Trajo Trajimos Trajeron And finally, the Leader of the J-Nick Gang: Traer This verb does not fit the pattern of being a “–cir” verb, but nonetheless this verb fought and clawed his way to the top and has earned the place of honor as the Leader of the J-Nick Gang. (Just don’t tell Hacer because he really does think he is “Z best verb of zem all”!) His NICKname is TRAJ but he also gets the same endings as the first lieutenants.
