Introductions Introduce yourself to everyone at your table: Your name Something funny about yourself Something surprising about yourself. Make sure you pay attention-one person will be asked to introduce everyone at the table-NO NOTES!

Set Up Notebooks Place your name sticker on the front of your book Insert at least 15 pages into your book. Write the number that is listed next to your name on the seating chart. Create a table of contents on the first page of your book: Page No. DateTopicPage No. DateTopic

Becoming a Teacher Label the first section of your table of contents: p.2 Date: 2/3/15 Topic: Becoming a Teacher Write down the following learning goal: Students will understand how to engage preschool children in a developmentally appropriate and professional manner and will demonstrate their understanding by working with preschool children in the classroom environment. Vocab: developmentally appropriate practice-having high expectations for all children, but not so high that they cannot achieve them. Vocab: egocentric-the inability to see things from someone else’s point of view

How Do Animals Eat? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUcqT5zpZ5E Discuss at your table why this might be an appropriate video to start discussing working with children. Write down at least three reasons this is a good discussion starter based on our class discussion.

What is Child’s World Introduce what Child’s World is: Bottom line, CW is the place where you learn to be teachers and if you enjoy this class and demonstrate your readiness to be teachers, then you can practice your skills next year in Child Services. In this class you will: play, study, dance, present, teach, listen, sing, lead, and so much more. Notice that I said both present and teach. How can those two things be different? Write your response based on our class discussion.

Child’s World Basics Feb 5 CW has preschool once every other week starting February 18th There are usually about 24 children in attendance Students will be in charge of a station and, sometimes, a specific child needs someone assigned Stations will be rotated most of the time. Second period will be going outside most days There is a dress codeMost of you will not have a buddy assigned, but you will very quickly find certain children form attachments The calendar is posted on the orange bulletin board next to the classroom door.

Charades: On p.3 write the rule after the skit is performed Talk to children at their eye level Don’t rough house Put things away in the correct places when you are done using them Be the somebody-if something needs to be done, don’t assume someone else will take care of it-you do it Leave your drama at the door Be careful what you say- always use your filter Participate in all activities as a good example Use positive guidance: Yes: Walk No: Don’t run Dress ready to play with children (would someone hire you to work with their children how you are dressed right now?) Always have two teachers take children to the bathroom Do not label children (liar/lazy/shy/mean/ goofy/etc. Allow children to do their own work, but support them by asking questions and being interested.

Completion p.3 at the bottom Write one paragraph about what you learned today. Put your books back in the correctly numbered folder. You may take your folder home, but only do so if you will actually be working on this class before you return on Thursday.
