2 Characteristics of Succession
Today you will analyzing the stages of succession using the Digital textbook SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement Log in to Blackboard and go to Ms. Griffiths Blackboard site. 2. Select the Environmental Science tab. 3. On the left side menu click Unit 2. 3. Click on the online textbook. This task uses: Environment Science Digital Textbook Learning Objective(s): Examine and discuss the major stages of succession, describing the generalized sequential order of the types of plant species (SE-H-A4) TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Cathy Griffiths/ School: LaGrange High School Louisiana State Standard: Examine and discuss the major stages of succession, describing the generalized sequential order of the types of plant species (SE-H-A4) Grade Level/Subject: Environmental Science 9-12 Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students: Students should have basic knowledge of photosynthesis and nutrient cycles. They should understand how animals facilitate plant growth in an ecosystem through pollination, seed carriers and fertilization.

3 Characteristics of Succession
Today you will analyze the data results of a scientific investigation using a web based technology tool called POLL EVERYWHERE AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement. Study the multiple choice question on the screen and choose an answer for the multiple choice question. 2. Observe the poll results on the screen with your group. 3. Take 5 minutes to discuss with your group when Primary Succession occurs. 4. As a team decide on 5 instances when primary succession would occur. 5. Then wait for your turn to present to the class either as a group or nominate a spokesperson to represent your group. This task uses: POLL EVERYWHERE Learning Objective(s): Examine and discuss the major stages of succession, describing the generalized sequential order of the types of plant species (SE-H-A4) TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Cathy Griffiths/ School: LaGrange High School Louisiana State Standard: Examine and discuss the major stages of succession, describing the generalized sequential order of the types of plant species (SE-H-A4) Grade Level/Subject: Environmental Science 9-12 Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students: Students should have basic knowledge of photosynthesis and nutrient cycles. They should understand how animals facilitate plant growth in an ecosystem through pollination, seed carriers and fertilization.

4 Ecological Succession using iMovie
Today you will be explaining Ecological Succession using the Web based technology iMovie. MODIFICATION Technology allows for significant task redesign. Each group will research the Principles of Ecological Succession by taking pictures of examples of succession that they see outside. Once the research is completed and pictures are taken, you will add the facts and the source of the fact to an iMovie presentation. This task uses: iMovie Learning Objective(s): Examine and discuss the major stages of succession, describing the generalized sequential order of the types of plant species (SE-H-A4) 6 TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Cathy Griffiths School: LaGrange High School Louisiana State Standard: Examine and discuss the major stages of succession, describing the generalized sequential order of the types of plant species (SE-H-A4) 6 Grade Level/Subject: Environmental Science 9-12 Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students: Students should have basic knowledge of photosynthesis and nutrient cycles. They should understand how animals facilitate plant growth in an ecosystem through pollination, seed carriers and fertilization.

5 Ecological Succession using Blackboard
Today we will publishing our scientific data to the student community for peer review using a web based technology called Blackboard Site. REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable. Go to the Ecological Succession Discussion Board on Blackboard and upload your movie. Once the iMovie link is open, review other research presented by classmates. In the Discussion, reply with at least 4 statements. Statements should be full statements designed to either support, revise or reject any scientific information with a reasonable explanation. This task uses: Blackboard Discussion Board Learning Objective(s): Examine and discuss the major stages of succession, describing the generalized sequential order of the types of plant species (SE-H-A4) TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Cathy Griffiths/ School: LaGrange High School Louisiana State Standard: Examine and discuss the major stages of succession, describing the generalized sequential order of the types of plant species (SE-H-A4) Grade Level/Subject: Environmental Science 9-12 Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students: Students should have basic knowledge of photosynthesis and nutrient cycles.
