2 Homeroom Procedures: Room 136
Go to your locker – then directly into homeroom. You may sit in any seat and talk QUIETLY until 7:39 AM. At 7:40 AM please move to your assigned seat SILENTLY! The door will close at 7:40 – if you are not in your assigned seat and silent you are tardy. Sit silently, work on homework, read a book, vegetate until the end of homeroom. Once you are in homeroom you may not leave for ANY reason without permission and a pass.

5 Social Studies Getting to Know You Activity with pipe cleaners.
Using pipe cleaners create 2 “sculptures”. One must represent something you know or something that symbolizes the United States or United States History. Your second “sculpture” must represent something about yourself – a hobby or an interest or something that symbolizes you. Rules: Only use the provided pipe cleaners – you may cut them if necessary (be careful please). You may NOT add any but you don’t have to use them all. Please do NOT trade them with your classmates. (Honor system!) Link your 2 sculptures together – your “sculptures” are due in class tomorrow. Colors don’t matter…….unless you assign them meaning! Summary: Write a paragraph for each “sculpture” – explain each – identify each, tell how does each represent the US and you? (notebook paper) *Be prepared to explain each of your sculptures tomorrow!

6 Before you leave class today please complete the following activity on the other side of you index card and turn it in to your period basket. 3 - List 3 things you’d like to learn in history class this year 2 - List 2 things about yourself that you think I should know 1 – Write 1 question you have about class this year that you would really like me to answer (I will do my best to answer all of your questions!)

7 Class Behavior Activity
Small Groups: Select a potential class behaviors/expectations/procedures As a team – discuss each Does your team think each is appropriate for class, necessary, or something that should just be expected without writing it down? Create a class expectation – consider the following: Rules/Expectations must be stated in a positive manner and must be clear and easy to understand. Make sure: - Expectations are reasonable and necessary. - Expectations are clear and understandable. - Classroom expectations are consistent with school expectations. Things to think about - What expectations are appropriate for this grade level? -Is there a good reason for this expectation? - Is the expectation too abstract to understand? - Will this expectation help or hinder students learning?

8 Create and submit a class motto for your class period.
Independently or as a team. We will vote on the final choices after Labor Day. Motto suggestions are due no later than 2:30 Friday!

9 Classroom Procedures: Room 136
Enter class QUIETLY, sit in your assigned seat and start the Do Now Activity. Class will start when the door closes. Anyone not working on the Do Now and sitting in their assigned seat will be marked tardy. Have on your desk only those materials you will need for class (this includes homework, book, pencil). If you have a question, raise your hand and you will be called upon. Students will be permitted to use the restroom during the last 10 minutes of class or if there is no direct instruction happening. (except emergencies – an emergency is NOT a hair out of place) Be respectful and courteous to EVERYONE in the classroom at ALL times.

7. A sign will be posted daily outside the classroom as to whether or not you will need your textbook for class, it will be your responsibility to check (if you are not sure/forget to check BRING IT WITH YOU!!). 8. Your textbook must have a cover at all times. 9. All homework will be turned in on the day it is due. 10. Homework papers with no name will be hung on the board for one week so that the owner may claim the paper. After one week, papers will be discarded. 11. Students may get up to sharpen their pencil, get paper, etc. without permission as long as the teacher is not talking to the class, in front of the class, or teaching the class. 12. When class is over you will be dismissed BY THE TEACHER!!

11 Helpful Hints to Survive History
Classroom Etiquette: Be courteous and respectful at all times. Be on time for class (in your seat completing do now when the door closes) Ask questions if there is something you don’t understand. Take responsibility for yourself and your work.

12 History Notebook: History Notebook:
This year you will be required to maintain a notebook for History class. In your folder you will keep all of your assignments for class (homework, test/quizzes, do now activities, notes, etc.). Please use the following hints to keep your History notebook organized: All homework/classwork assignments must be completed in blue/black ink or pencil. (Assignments completed in red ink will NOT be accepted!) Section Review Questions: Answer in your own words – restate the questions in your answer. (DO NOT start an answer with he, they, or it – you will not receive credit for your answer!) All worksheets, packets, study guides must be turned in on the date they are due. These do not need to be in complete sentences unless otherwise instructed. Turn all assignments in on the day they are due. Daily homework will not be accepted late. Major projects will be accepted late – you will lose 5pts/school day.

13 History Notebook Con’t:
If you are absent it is your responsibility to check for/complete missed assignments and turn in any assignments due to Ms. Wenrich Please write the date you were absent and the word Absent at the top of your assignments. You will have 3 school days to complete any assignment you missed for each day you were absent. If you are absent for an extended time it is your responsibility to see me. Check Ms. Wenrich’s website under Ms. Wenrich’s Updates and Assignments for powerpoint presentations, notes, handouts and other necessary class materials. Complete assignments legibly, do not doodle/decorate your work. All class notes/work should be added to your notebook according to the Topic, chapter, date they were taken. Follow all directions written and verbal for each assignment/project.

14 Exit Ticket – write on a sticky note (provided) and post on the wall on your way out the door – please do not put any on top of the self control poster! Why is it important to create a positive classroom climate with clear expectations at the start of the school year?

15 Room 136 AE Guidelines Enter quietly and sit in your assigned seat SILENTLY Library and Computer Lab Usage – TBD If you have a pre-signed pass for another class – hand it to me when you enter class – I will sign all passes AFTER I take attendance. If you are in Band, Chorus, or Orchestra – report directly to those rooms on the appropriate cycle days If you choose to stay in homeroom you MUST work on Social Studies Assignments first – bring your materials. If all SS assignments are complete you may work on other homework. If you have nothing to work on during AE I will provide you with extra assignments for the period. PSSA Practice Activities will become part of AE in the near future.
