A. Thesis Statement

  FACTS: Born: 2 April, 742 Dead: 28 January, 814 Holly-Roman Emperor: December 25, 800 – January 28, 814 King of the Franks: October 9, 768 – January 28, 814 Name: Carolus (Karl) later they called him Charles le Magne (Charles the Great)  Charlemagne (also known as Charles the Great or Charles I) was known as a great military leader and a great ruler. He was capable to unite all Europe and controlled It until his dead. I. B. General Info

  Charlemagne was crowned Holly Roman Emperor or Emperor of the Romans on December 25, 800 A.D. by Pope Leo III. The mayor reason was because Charlemagne united all of Europe by the name of God just as the Romans. But there were other reasons like because his family (his ancestors) had been very generous to the Pope and the Cardinals and had donated land to them. II. A. Holly Roman Emperor

  After the death of his father and brother, Charlemagne was named Frankish ruler and grew to be the greatest Frankish rulers of all times. These were the first people he was king of, but then was named Emperor of the Romans too. His first 30 years as Frankish Ruler were dedicated to conquering and military advancement. But then he became a little more political ruler. At the end of his rule he added more territory to his empire but this time it was given to him, he didn't conquer it. II. B. Frankish King

  FACTS: Father: Pepin the Short Mother: Bertrada of Laon Grand-Father: Charles Martel Son(1): Pepin the Hunchback Son(2): Pepin of Italy Son(3): Louis the Pious III. A. Family

  Charlemagne was not born to be an emperor but when his brother died in 771, Charlemagne became the only king of the Frankish. Charlemagne dedicated most of his life to an Emperor (mostly military) life. But Charlemagne also had a personal life and he had 3 children (2 of them died). As a father there is no much known for Charlemagne but it is known that he wanted to divide his kingdom for his 3 sons but when 2 of them died, he named Luis co-emperor and then emperor after his death. III. B. Life
