Beta Team Teachers  Brandy Botek – Biology  Tim Churchill – History  Frank Magee – Math  Jillian Williams – English  Drew Diggins - Math

K eep L earning on T rack  Certain Allen teachers have been trained in this KLT program. Our team has adopted several aspects of it in all of our classrooms.  The aspects adopted on our team are the “Comment Grading” theory, the “NO Hands Up” policy and the “Question Box” idea.

KLT  With the “Comment Grading”, we have adopted a more student friendly grading system. For most assignments, students will receive a check plus, check, or check minus on the paper. It will also include more comments as opposed to just a number grade. This will allow students to better understand what is incorrect and possibly how to “fix” it in the future.

KLT  The “No Hands Up” policy involves the teacher asking questions and randomly (previously designed method) chooses someone to answer after giving some time for students to process the questions and come up with an answer.

KLT  The “Question Box” idea allows students to write down, at the end of the period, additional questions they may have about the lesson or objective being taught. The questions in the box at the end of the period will be addressed at the beginning of the next period.

Rules  The team enforces all rules found in the Allentown School District Code of Conduct regarding behavior and discipline  We also enforce all rules found in the William Allen High School Blue Book regarding attendance and discipline.

Team Rules  These rules are enforced in all team teacher classrooms.  Students will only be allowed to sign out of class during the first and last five minutes. This will eliminate disruptions and interruptions during class.

Team Rules  No acts of cheating will be tolerated. Our team stands by our academic honesty policy which was sent home earlier this year.  NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES may be visible in the classroom. If these items are seen or heard, they will be taken away and dealt with according to WAHS policy

Team Rules  No inappropriate or disrespectful behavior or attitudes in the classroom

Team Detention  Our team conducts its own detention after school – these will be work based detentions  Students will receive a disciplinary detention for disruptive/disrespectful behavior in the classroom or the hallway and a homework detention for not completing an assignment.

Team Detention  Team detention is from 3:15 pm – 3:45 pm  Students are expected to attend detention the day it was given. There will be no excuse for missing homework detention. If a student cannot make it to a discipline detention, alternate arrangements have to be made with the teacher that assigned the detention

Disciplinary Detention  If given a disciplinary detention, the student has violated a specific classroom rule. In detention the student will copy an article about that rule.  An example of this would be a student that was disruptive in biology lab would copy an article on lab safety

Disciplinary Detention  If a student refuses to do the work in detention, he or she will be referred to the assistant principal  If a student skips a disciplinary detention, he or she will be given 2 more detentions to be served consecutively. If either of these are missed, the student will be referred to the assistant principal

Homework Detention  If given a homework detention, the student has not completed an assignment that was due that day. In detention the student will do that assignment (from start to finish). The assignment may not be completed before entering detention. This will deter any copying.

Homework Detention  If a student skips a homework detention, he or she will receive a zero for the assignment and will receive a 2 detentions to be served consecutively  This system should prevent students from being sent to the assistant principal. This will in turn save them from having a lengthy discipline file

Team Meetings  Our team meets everyday from 11:00 am to 11:45 am. In these meeting we discuss student progress or concerns. We also phone, , or meet with parents.  If any parent would like to meet with us as a team, please feel free to contact us to arrange a time
