2  Please take out a sheet of paper and answer the following questions:  What is respect?  What does respect mean to you?  How do you feel when someone disrespects you?  What are some ways that you can show your teacher respect? Your peers/friends/classmates? How can you show self-respect?

4  The purpose of this course is to enrich study habits and skills to support students in their academic classes in order for them to be effective lifelong learners.

5  Monday: Biology Enrichment  Tuesday: Mathematics Enrichment/ Independent Study  Wednesday: Revolution Prep  Thursday: English Enrichment (Reading and Analysis Practice)  Friday: Mathematics Enrichment/ Independent Study  Independent Study Days: Students must bring homework from other academic classes to work on with the opportunity to receive assistance from Peer Mentors  ***There will be weekly journal writing during the first 10 minutes of each class period

7 1. Come to class on time and prepared with all materials. 2. Respect the teacher, your classmates, and the classroom. ***Backpacks and purses ON THE FLOOR! 3. No Profanity. 4. No food, drink, gum, or candy will be permitted. 5. Raise your hand if you wish to speak or leave your seat for any reason. 6. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up the work. 7. No cell phones, IPODs, MP3s, or technology of this kind. 8. YOU are responsible for your education, the teacher is only your guide

8  Come to class on time daily with a positive attitude  Respect peers and the teacher  Bring all supplies to class  Complete all class work and homework on time  Listen attentively and actively contribute to class discussion  Cheating will not be tolerated

10  Don’t Break class and school rules!  Consequences for misbehavior  1 st Offense: Warning  2 nd Offense: Call home to the parents  3 rd Offense: Detention  4 th Offense: Meeting with parent/Counselor

11  GHCHS has a “No Late Work” policy – students are expected to be responsible individuals and submit all work on time.  If an assignment is due the day the student is absent, he/she is required to submit the assignment the day of his/her return.  For assignments missed due to an absence, the student will be given the amount of days absent to make-up the missing work (i.e. 2 days absent =2 days to submit make-up work).  ***It is the student’s responsibility to find out what work he/she is missing on the day of the absence.  CHECK THE AGENDA BOOK!!!

12 POINTSTASK Based on Assignment English Enrichment (Reading and Analysis) 10 Points Mathematics Enrichment/ Independent Study 10 points per Mentor Session Revolution Prep Work (Algebra Readiness) Based on Assignment Independent Reading and Writing Tasks 30 points/month Binder Check (Check once a month) 20 points Agenda Check (Checked randomly)

13  A = 90-100%  B = 80-89%  C = 70-79%  D = 60-69%  F = 59% and below

14  You will receive 15 Participation points per week (3 per day), based on the stamps you earn on your calendar. These are easy points that add up and can impact you grade significantly. All you have to do is show up to class, work productively, and earn the points!  Points will be taken away for the following reasons:  Failure to bring materials to class  Behavior issues

15  Copy homework from each class into agenda/planner (even if the there is no homework)  Classes should be listed in order  Completed homework assignments should be highlighted or crossed/checked off  Parent signature is required daily  Brought to school daily  Checked every Monday (or at random!)

16  3- ring binder  5 Dividers with Tabs:  Biology Enrichment  Math Enrichment worksheets  Revolution Work  English Enrichment  Participation  Binders should be kept neat and organized – will be checked at least ONCE A MONTH!

17  The second half of the period on Tuesdays and Fridays will be dedicated to HW and studying. Your peer mentors will be available during this time for HW help.  It would be to your benefit to bring any HW you have to skills class EVERY DAY in the event that you finish the class assignment early for that day. ****Students may not begin HW until the Math Enrichment Worksheet is completed!
