Welcome to 2 nd Grade! Mrs. Cormack

Let’s Talk! Communication is KEY!! - Check planner daily and initial (so I know that you know) – works best for me (Put your child’s name as the subject) –Call our room and leave a message (I will return calls during planning or after school) –See me in the hallway….make sure I write it down!!! –Website The best way to contact me is: Direct classroom line:

Tardy and Absences Tardy after 7:45 (I start my instruct promptly at 7:35…) Call the office and me when there is/going to be an absence Send a note upon return to school (must have full name & date) Sending work ahead of time when planning to be out isn’t always possible. Most if not all of the lessons require hands on experiences with tools in the classroom.

End of the Day Changes Note in planner informing/reminding me of the changes Call the office and leave info, they will get the message to me If leaving early, write it in planner or me so I can prepare if necessary No last minute changes for bad weather dismissal per the office

Expectations and Behavior Expectations posted in each classroom Refer to handout on behavior systems Positive Reinforcement –Star card cash in –Fun Friday –Spotlight Stallion (Peter Rabbit) Natural/Fair Consequences Tally System

Responsibility and Ownership Students will be responsible for turning in homework – Every Monday: a week to complete (signing in for completed HW) The results of holding students responsible for their work is the students will gain ownership for their learning and become an independent thinker! YAY Following District and State Curriculum Practicing Urgency & Stamina

Each Day Everyone Should… Have his/her backpack along with planner and necessary materials. Have their lunch money or packed lunch Know how they are getting home. Have a healthy snack and water (we are a nut free class)

Homework and Word Work Students will not have spelling words, instead, they will be responsible for learning a spelling pattern. Through out the week students will be working with words that follow the pattern they are assigned. High Five…..Folders/Notebooks will come home for you to look over and send back the next day. I try to send them out weekly. Homework Choice Sheet…math, reading/writing, science/social studies, spelling work. Given each Monday and due the following Monday.

Homework Example

Conferences Parent Conference Day –Dates to be announced 20 minutes Try hard to fit your schedule

I am going to mess up…. I ask your forgiveness now! Please tell me nicely that I have messed up! I will accommodate you any way that I can!

This Year In a Nut Shell Second grade is a more challenging year for the children; they are going from more guided work to more independent and self directed work. With hard work and dedication we can make this year the best they have ever had! But it’s the best year!! Thank you for sharing your child with me! I look forward to a successful year.

Q & A Time Any questions??? I’ll do my best to answer them!

Good Night Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule. Have a wonderful evening!
